win10 pro upgrade from win10 home

I'm upgrading my home edition to pro which I have done before with other win10 home pc's, don't need or want the hassle of a new install.
I got a win10 pro, its the full pkg, with an install cd.
first I did the change key with the generic win 10 pro key, reboot, and then change key again to the new win10 pro, got the success message. however after checking system status with showkeyplus, it reports I have win10 pro but with a completely different key from the win10 pro I bought and installed. and has the message:
"* Default key - requires a Digital License for activation"

not sure where this has gone askew or if there is some other step in this simple process I'm missing

chg license from home to pro appears to require add'l activation

this is the sequence of updating first with the generic license,
followed by updating to the purchased license,
that asterik message seems clear that more needs to done
after submitting new license code I got a successful activation message

That is because you have a OEM copy originally on your machine. You are really overthinking this. Cannot work this install key out

showkeyplus info is bizarre and convoluted

I guess I have to trust windows settings that I'm fully updated and activated to win10 pro, despite the
bizarre and I would say conflicting information from showkeyplus

    showkeyplus screens

home - shows I have pro with the confusing * msg 'requires a digital license for activation...', why would it report that when settings/activation has "windows is activated with a digital license linked to your microsoft account"....imho bizarre and confusing conflicting info

retrieve key - doesn't seem to work at all, it can't seem to access the "software" file in system32/config because its currently in use by windows, ok understand that if I wanted to modify it, but if only to read it why not give access

more - indicates I have home with a who knows what/where installed key 37GNV-YCQVD-38XP9-T848R-FC2HD, looks similar to the who knows what where when key for pro information

upgrade - shows window home with the installed key same as the oem original key, no * msg, why would more and upgrade have different info about the original oem home windows?

too bad I wasted so much time down the showkeyplus rabbit hole info

but one last question, can't seem to find anywhere the win10 pro license I purchased, since that is what I have installed and activated, its got to be somewhere, yes? but where? and how to get to it, googling has not come up with anything so far

You bought a Windows 10 Pro OEM product key as indicated by the fact the you stated you got the full package with an install CD - only the OEM versions come with DVDs, retail versions come with USB flash drives. More times than not when you activate Windows 10, Microsoft will change the installed product key to the generic product key after activation and from that point forward uses the digital license gained by the original product key entered to obtain that initial license. You have the manufacturer's OEM generic product key for Windows 10 Pro installed now, which makes sense since you used a Windows 10 Pro OEM product key for activation.

In summary - everything on your computer is perfectly normal Windows 10 behavior (well, at least normal in the Microsoft way.)

Showey Plus reported the key correctly - it is a generic product key that Microsoft has installed for you. It does require activation because the generic product key will not activate Windows by itself - it needs a pre-existing digital license for activation. You gained the required digital license when you entered your purchased product key. Thus you have the proper and required combination for activation - a generic product key + an existing digital license.
