    Thanks, downloading now. I hope it's safe

    Why MS just doesn't provide a bootable ISO is beyond me.

    I can't get it to work (the usb sticks). I managed to format it as GPT, there was no MBR option. Is there a tool I can use to format it to the required way?

    In a Command Prompt (Admin) run DISKPART. List the disks to identify the disk number of your USB then select it. Use the CLEAN command to remove all formatting then its CONVERT MBR command. Then create a partition and format it as Fat32.

    The MCT should then recognise it.

    UUI performs diskpart commands upon format. It is pretty straightforward tool.

    They do, I get the newer version as they come out using the MCT/Media Creation Tool, never have an issue with either the .iso used to burn a DVD or the bootable USB Thumb drive. The point of an .iso file is to have a downloaded file which is used by a disc burning program to create an exact duplicate of the original disc when that original is not available.

    As for trying Linux, I download an .iso file for LiveDVD and burn it, it's bootable and has all the same as if installing but does not change the internal drive unless wanting to, great way to test various iterations of what is available free.

    The MCT can make an ISO as easily as it can the USB. In fact I usually prefer to make an ISO, as it's easy to then make a USB from the ISO. That's Option Four in the tutorial.

    No, the ISO I download from Microsoft in Linux from here;
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...d/windows10ISO

    Is not bootable when flashed to an ISO USB stick. It always either tried for a disc (who uses those now) or just wont boot on a computer, something as it being a compressed file.

    I use Easy2Boot for Windows/Linux install, as well as, techie type needs. I have at least 45 iso's on a 64G stick and use it all the time for work. Ventoy is another one I use but it does have a few more issues over Easy2Boot.

    The best ISO to use for creating a bootable USB manually is the one created by the MCT. Of course to run that you'd need a Windows PC.

    I'm trying to do that, hopefully it will work, otherwise I'll have a 9th gen Dell gaming laptop as a paperweight, I just can't use ubuntu.

    I did it twice with 2 different usb sticks aand MCT just doesn't see the drives even though file explorer sees them, and every time I mount them, windows recognize them.

    just for clarification, I have 2 laptop, a smaller one that I'm using that has Windows, and the other which has linix and I want to get windows on it.
