Windows 10 21H1 upgrade invitation has disappeared

On my 4 Windows 10-64 20H2 PCs Windows Update no longer shows the upgrade to 21H1 as available. I had been ignoring the option to install while taking a "wait and see" approach in case there was a major glitch.

Did I just miss out on the opportunity to upgrade/update via Windows Update or did Microsoft pull 21H1 because of a problem? Will I ever see it reappear in Windows Update or will I have to manually download and install when I'm ready?

There's nothing interesting- indeed the addition of 'News and Interests' on the taskbar is causing minor problems for some.

It's very easy to get the 21H1 manually. Shawn has posted easy instructions and links. It's just a matter of downloading a very small "Enablement" Package and running it, then Restart. Very easy.

Just follow the link I indicate here:

How to get the Windows 10 May 2021 Update version 21H1

scroll down to the item I indicate and click it.

It takes you here: KB5000736 Featured update Windows 10 version 21H1 enablement package

Simply download the small package that's right for your system, most likely the x64 package.

    done!

I suspect that they removed the "invitation" because they've now started to push it onto 2004 systems automatically through Windows Update & "AI", according to MS.

Yes, I heard that also. May not see it as an optional anymore. Manual is so easy, though. And quick.

News and Interests is not specific to 21H1. KB5003637 generously enables it for everyone, even 2004 will get it with this CU....

@sewing1243 -- Have we posted enough to answer your initial question? Is anything else unclear, need more?

Regarding the upgrade to 21H1 disappearing - I had that happen on 2 machines. On both machines, I got a message saying something like "click here to install the 21H1 feature update" and when clicked the option went away and it did not install.

On one machine the option reappeared several days later at which time I was able to install. On the other machine, I didn't wait. I simply installed the enablement package.

The option for installing 21H1 is gone from my Z170 after installing the new CU too. I don`t care, I have the 21H1 ISO, and I`m not even considering installing it yet.

I never use Windows Update to download and install a new Feature Update.

As for the News & Interests option on the taskbar goes, I just turned it off.

AddRAM - A couple of suggestions:

    1) 2004, 20H2, and 21H1 are all serviced by the exact same updates. In other words, there is no difference between these versions other than the fact that certain features may get enabled in the newer versions, but those features are there even in the older versions. So if you are already on 2004+ I can't think of any logical reason to not upgrade.

    2) Because they are the same thing and are serviced by the same updates, I would suggest that when the time comes to update, use the enablement package and NOT the ISO that you have. If you use the ISO you will go through an entire new installation of Windows whereas the enablement package will install even faster than a monthly update.
