    clean install

After a clean install of Win 21H1 device manager says Windows is unable to update drivers for SM Bus Controller and PCI device. They were open by until I clicked upon them.. Should it be this way and should I do anything to change it?

Get the chipset driver and the SATA driver from here...

    TUF Z390-PLUS GAMING (WI-FI)|Motherboards|ASUS USA

Install the chipset driver, then the SATA driver.
    Then check device manager again.

    OR... do this...

SMBus Controller Not Recognized by Windows*

I know that this does NOT help this time round, but in the future, you may want to Backup Device Drivers . . .

    > How to Backup and Restore Device Drivers in Windows 10

Have you looked on the Manufacturers Website for ANY updated Drivers [ Chipset & SATA ]?

    I hope this helps.

After I posted some optional updates appeared and I installed them. After doing do so those drivers seems to be ok device manager looks good. Maybe I had the shoe on before the sock??
Should I leave it as is or proceed with your instructions?
Also thank you for directions for backing up the drivers. It will take some time to study. If I bookmark this page with it be there for a while?
    Thank you both

You might find them under Settings > Update & Security > Window Update > View Optional Updates > Driver updates***

*** You expand the list by clicking on the '>' carrot )

With a clean install of 21H1, I too found, unlike all my past clean installs, that several of my devices now had these Yellow '!' warnings. Even some, like Bluetooth, were missing all together until I used the Optional Driver listed.

-- Update: Oh good I see you've already found it. ;o)

I would leave it and let the OS settle down. If your Device Manager is FREE from Yellow Triangles, you are good to go.

Yes, the Bookmark will stay until you remove it.

That's OK. You can ONLY give the same person a REP EVERY Ten REPS. We do it because we just like helping people anyway.
