Startup repair wont play after linux grub messup.

Hello to the forum with a problem of my own creation.
    Followed this tutorial ...
Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10
But Troubleshoot/advanced/startup repair functions but cannot actually do any repair.
    Reason for invoking =
w10p on primary internal nvme drive ... still capable of booting from Grub after a "wrong" linux install to an external ssd.

I can get a grub bootloader IF the external drive is connected and from there choose windows and all is fine.

Did not intend this to be the method (I note others trying this type of install complaining that Calamares installer makes wrong decisions).
The linux install fails to boot as well - but dont care as it was a test - and it is on an external so can just drop the lot and start again.
But cannot drop it yet as it seems to be needed to get access to the windows boot.

I have tried variations from bios boot order and the normal windows boot location will not boot directly (nor will the linux external either).

So wanted to repair the existing windows bootloader - hence following Advanced StartUp ... SetUp Repair.
    But did not succeed.

20H2 up-to-date and currently functioning as expected ... only the bootloader seems to be the problem.

Anyone got a big fat Linux swatter ?

Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10 will not work since GRUB is now taking over the Boot Process.

Post a screen shot of disk management so we'll know how to rebuild the the Windows Boot Manager.

And can see two recovery ?
I "think" the Linux Calamares installer changed the 99MB Disk 0 partition 2

This will assign letter A to partition 2 on disk 0.
Open Admin command prompt and type:
    diskpart
    select disk 0
    select par 2
    assign letter=A
    exit

This will disable the Recovery Environment, format A: , rebuild BCD, remove drive A: from mount point, re-enable Recovery.
    Type:
    reagentc /disable
    format A: /FS:FAT32 /Q
    bcdboot C:\Windows /s A: /f UEFI
    mounvol A: /D
    reagentc /enable

NOTE: Make sure there are spaces in between options from commands above.

Disconnect the External disk containing LINUX. Reboot.

    Thank you again - topgundcp.

    Wonderful ....
Will read this very carefully and try in a few minutes.
    Back soon ...

    Got as far as ...
    format A: /FS:FAT32 /Q
With this result from "Y" ....

    Leaving it "as is" .......

OK. So Windows prevent you from messing with this partition while online.

Do you have Windows Installation USB ??? If so, disconnect everything except disk 0 containing Windows then boot Windows Installation media.
On first screen, press SHIFT + F10, you'll get Admin Command Prompt.
Re-run everything from previous post except reagentc /disable and reagentc /enable.

I have a Macrium RE usb created about a week ago........

    EDIT:
Wont play ... just get "Your device needs repair" ...
Shift-F10 gives no result nor does F8 or ESC (options on blue screen).

The good news is that the Grub still lets me choose Windows so I am back on that.

    EDIT2:

Just realised I have the original iso for this w10p install I did as an in place upgrade ...
And that my system clock was changed by Calamares by 2 hours ...

    END EDITS.

Need to bale out for tonight (later than time shown because of Calamares).
Looking at another in-place upgrade from the iso I have for the current successful in-place upgrade done a few days ago.
Will do that tomorrow unless advised of a better route.
Thanks for help and will check back before upgrade.

If you boot up Windows 10 Installation Media, hold down SHIFT + F10 will definitely give the Admin Command Prompt.

Did not know that you also have Macrium Rescue disk. You could also use this to boot up, click on the Command Prompt icon on bottom left of the screen to open Admin command prompt then run those commands to rebuild the Windows Boot Manager

    Thank you - topgundcp.
Just tried Macrium RE usb and cannot see/find that icon anywhere on the blue screen for command prompt.
It timed out before I could get every word but ....
    Device needs repair ..
    Error 0xc000000e
Need to use recovery tools ...
    Enter
    F8
    ESC
and then a small amount of text but missed out / timed out to off state.
Tried each option and got no response (screen just flicked back to same) ..
    ESC just goes to BIOS.

Then tried in place upgrade but that fails as Windows now only offers "Nothing" as the repair option as it is suspicious of the location of the install (or similar words).

I dont have any other installation media except Macrium on spinning hdd done about a week ago.

Going to find tutorial for Macrium restore now.....

So (hopefully for the last time this topic) ..
    Thank you to - topgundcp.

Final method was to follow your advice and so went to Brinks tutorial to create installation usb ...
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10
Went for option 2 paragraph 7 as I already had my iso.
Went as tutorial ... thanks Brink.

Re-Booted and went for command prompt .....
Slight variation to what you said I would see ..... no option to get to command prompt (elevated or otherwise) except via the menus. Tried Shift F10 at each stage a couple of times and no icon bottom left.
However ... ploughed on to command prompt and "hoped" it would be admin.
Cursor was similar to ...... "x\sources" but was concentrating too hard to bother to write it down !
Followed the command guidance from "topgundcp" and all went as described.
Only thing that fazed me was that each line produced a response from the terminal except the last one "mounTvol A: /D" (typo). Nothing from terminal ... so held breath, exit and successfully rebooted direct to Windows and now typing from there.

Having learned a valuable lesson ... I am going back to the alternative method for having Linux with w10.
Will remove the primary nvme drive with my w10p on it.
Either just keep the external ssd as that or temp install (probably keep external in first attempt).
Then use the live usb Linux to do an install to the external ssd.
That way it cannot get anywhere near the w10p bootloader.
    Replace primary nvme.
Then I can go back to the bios bootlist to boot Linux if I want to and just keep w10p as normal boot.

The level of support from this forum has always been excellent and very quick ... very much appreciated and I think we all need to remember that you wizards are doing this for free, in your own time and because you care.

Not really sure what you did but if you boot up the Macrium Rescue USB. You should get a screen similar to the screen below and the icon for command prompt is there.
