If the commands are run in Windows, yes. Won't work in Linux.

Thanks for the reply NavyLCDR, it is appreciated.

I have saved a copy of your procedure in a PDF file for future reference.

Good to know you've got it fixed.
Thanks - I hesitated to post an update, but decided to go ahead. - Yesterday I kept the newly reinstalled W10 open all day and all went well for around 10 hours. - But that was yesterday.

Today as I started reinstalling my Avast subs, the computer locked up, cursor wouldn't move, keyboard didn't work - same old problem and I had to crash dive.

Also, something that has also been a problem - Device Manager was flashing as if constantly reconnecting to something. That problem was cleared up yesterday, but it's back again today.

I've run all the cleanup routines posted here again today, and they all came up clean, no problems detected.

Big bummer. - I'll just not use W10, keep using only W7 which works fine. Save up my pennies for a new computer - But I don't look forward to having to get one. Besides the expense which is way beyond my budget, I have so many large old programs I use on a regular basis which will be impossible to reinstall because of their age.

If I somehow have new success with W10, I'll report it.

But thank you everyone on this thread who did a great job of trying to help me out.

Another update - I've been working in W10 all day since that glitch in the morning. I'm going to chalk up that freeze to being a bit over zealous with how speedily I was trying to get all my Avast subscriptions set up again. I must have had 5 Avast UIs open with more than one thing installing at a time and my browser was also open for quick instructions reference - I may have just pushed the limit on how much I should do at a time. I've been more sane in my pace since, and all is going OK. - Thanks - I'll try to restrain reporting more unless something new and unexpected comes up, something that would need a new conversation thread. Hopefully I'll be OK.

    Thanks!
