Latest Windows 10 Install media ISO file too large to burn to DVD

The stock answer to this problem is "use a flash drive".
However, there are those of us who have antediluvian PCs whose bios does not support booting from USB flash drives.
I thought that putting the install media on a bootable internal or external HDD might be a solution but I am having difficulty implementing that solution.
I've followed all of the recommended steps for creating a bootable HDD, but have had no luck.
Perhaps one of our resident experts could detail the correct procedure, and perhaps also show how to get Windows Boot Manager to recognise the install package as a valid target.

Hi, first make sure you're using the media creation tool to get an ESD rather than WIM-base download (smaller.
Second, the easiest option with a DVD is to use a dual layer one.

After that, you'd have to consider adapting the iso file to remove editions. (Last post from above)

Then there's this possibility for flash drives:

Are you actually trying to do a clean install ?

If not then just do a repair install, just download the version you want and open it with explorer and click on setup.

Yes, the current install media for 20H2 requires a dual-layer DVD, even if made by the MCT with its more compact install.esd.

That last version that could fit on a standard DVD was 2004. You can run the 2004 MCT to make an ISO that should fit on a DVD with this wrapper tool from GitHub.

Universal MediaCreationTool wrapper for all MCT Windows 10 versions from 1507 to 21H1 with business (Enterprise) edition support . GitHub

Once 2004 is installed it can be updated to 20H2 by applying the small (about 80MB) enablement package. The forthcoming 21H1 will also be installed by enablement package.

Download links for the 20H2 enablement package here:

KB4562830 Enablement Package Feature Update to Windows 10 version 20H2

As an aside, 20H2 is also the first version to require a USB larger than 8GB if you use the MCT to make install media for both 32 & 64 bits. But the 2004 USB for both versions will fit on an 8GB USB with room enough to hold the enablement package too.

I use the same discs but have had to order from the Internet, not carried in local stores [local means 40 miles]. So far, I also have been able to get the third choice using MCT of having both the x64 and x86 versions on the same disc, also on an 8GB USB drive, but maybe the future choices will be too large for that.

That's interesting Berton, in Germany is also hard to find brandnamed DVD DL, only names which nobody heard of. Luckily, I still was able to find in internet HP DVD's just because of the name.

Just finished creating a Bootable USB Thumb drive using the MCT process, needed a 16GB drive instead of 8GB, but I always get the third choice of both x86 and x64 as I never know in advance which I will need.
