Update Win 10 Home from v1709 to 20h2

    Hey All,
I am trying to help my 70+ year old sister REMOTELY update her version of Win10. She has an HP Envy laptop running Win10 Home. Version 1709 build 16299.1087. Obviously it is very behind and I can only guess that it is because she has not left it on long enough often enough for updates to proceed normally.
I've tried the update assistant and tried downloading the ISO file to a 32GB USB. The result is always the same, I get a message that says "We can't tell if your PC has enough space......"

I have run the disk clean up and checked the "clean up system files" box. I have defraged and runjv16 PowerTools. There appears to be plenty of available space. 833GB free on (C:) out of 931Gb. I have run the Windows update troubleshooter. The troubleshooter fixed 2 problems but said it could not fix " Potential Windows Update Database error detected". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks - Heat

A lot of members on here have problems updating from old version but a clean install works every time. Old version dont have some things needed by the install'

A clean install gives you a trouble free windows and less hassal than messing about

Agree with Samuria; very recently tried to remote upgrade 1909 to 20H1 which had not been self updating for months. Got it to latest 1909 but when trying via online Update Assistant and then ISO from Media Creation tool, both methods stuck for hours on 'Checking if your PC has enough space', once getting so far as to 99% done before stalling. After completely being stuck trying the Reset in Troubleshoot mode because she forgot her new password, created so she could use PIN, had her backup to an external drive then Clean Install which took less than 2 hrs, transferred files from external and Done.
Backup files and clean install took less time than trying to update in-place and troubleshooting, IMHO. Good Luck

Just have to walk her thru getting into BIOS to change boot order to usb and then delete all partitions to one unallocated space to clean install. Just be patient with the BIOS part. Good Luck
