B450 Mortar Max > B450 Tomahawk Max II - Reinstall Windows?

Hey guys, my MSI B450 Mortar Max has died so I've bought a B450 Tomahawk Max II to replace it. I'm really hoping I won't have to reinstall Windows 10? Can anybody advise please?

Just move the drive to the new motherboard.

The OS is on a M.2 drive, will that make a difference?

A wise person would already have a full disk image of at least all partitions of their O/S as is recommended endlessly here. Just in case.

Do you have a full retail license of Win 10? If so, using tutorials on activation here as necessary, and easily if you are already using a MS live id as login, you should be able to activate Windows on your new hardware.

I have a full backup of my system. What I'm worried about is will the drivers from my old MSI Mortar Max cause issues when I put my OS on the new MSI Tomahawk Max II board. I am assuming the drivers will be installed on my m.2 along with the OS. I really want to avoid a clean install of W10 if possible.

Thank you very much for your reply.

The point is Windows is good at reconfiguring its drivers. Plenty of similar threads if you look around.

It doesn't matter if m.2. Just move the drive over. As long as both are the same SATA or NVMe.

Windows Update MiniTool will find a list of drivers as shown below:

A quick check of the driver downloads for the two boards show that they use the same ones.

Should be about the most painless swap possible, short of using an exact copy of the original board.
