W10 seems my system is not yet ready for latest version.

I keep the update actives and have always updated so am up to date.
However for must be over a year I have been advised that the new version will be available once my system or windows is ready.
    Please see screenshots below.

Yesterday I received a notification that my W10 version would soon be out of date and I should update it by using Windows update!
I assume there must be something in my version that the new one does not like or is incompatible with, I did not manage to remember all the notification as it disappeared in seconds.

Not sure what to do from here, perhaps someone would kindly point me to a solution?

I suggest that you make a new system image using Macrium Reflect*** or other [non-MS] equivalent then
download the Version 20H2 ISO file - Download Windows 10 ISO File from MS - TenForumsTutorials then
use that ISO file to do the update using the Repair install [InPlaceUpgrade] procedure - Repair Install - TenForumsTutorials [this is not the same as reinstalling Windows]
If it all goes wrong then you can restore the system image.

Note added later - There have been several reports of people using the Repair install procedure to update from Version 1909 to Version 20H2 so there is unlikely to be any need to consider a clean install i.e. a full reinstallation of Windows.
    Clean Install - TenForumsTutorials

*** Macrium Reflect [free edition] is often recommended in this forum for making system images. Other utilities are available but this one is so commonplace that you can get plenty of help for it.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect - TenForumsTutorials
    Macrium Software Macrium Reflect Free
    Macrium USB - TenForums
Macrium Reflect KnowledgeBase - user guide [version-independent link]

It can also make bootable system images. This facility is called viBoot and it requires Win10 Pro.
    Macrium viBoot - Macrium KB
Macrium viBoot - Create Virtual Machine using Macrium Image - TenForumsTutorials

While you're thinking about backups, consider Backup and Restore Device Drivers - TenForumsTutorials as well.

    All the best,

As you have a very old version of Windows you may have to do a clean install a lot on the forum haven't been able to update from old version but clean install works

Hi, I've just upgraded this laptop from 1903 to 20H2.

Noted you appear to be dual booting with Win 7.

You can circumvent the 'safeguard hold' - see this tutorial from the Tutorials section - this at your own risk.
How to Disable Safeguard Holds for Feature Updates on Windows 10

    Note the documents referenced: e.g.
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...afeguard-holds

This appears to be the only way to identify the problem:
IT admins can use Update Compliance to monitor various update health metrics for devices in their organization, including ones affected by a safeguard hold that prevents them from updating to a newer operating system version.

Queries identify Safeguard IDs for each affected device, giving IT admins a detailed view into the various protections extended to devices. Safeguard IDs for publicly discussed known issues are also included in the Windows release health dashboard, where you can easily find information related to publicly available safeguards.
    More on Update Compliance:
    https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/...e/ba-p/1809652

Before disabling the safeguard and attempting the upgrade as advised above, please update your disk images (you are using disk imaging regularly and routinely as is endlessly recommended here, I hope) e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) - all O/S partitions.

Thanks for your replies and assistance. I have MR but not had occasion to put it to the restore tab, yet.

I can choose either W10 or MR to boot from, I assume I action a full image update (as it does on the first Monday of each month) Then repair install from the iso file. Should this go wrong will I still be able to boot from the MR boot option and my system will be back as it was before the repair install?
My main worry is that it took me ages to get my calendar links and syncs to work with Outlook 2010, Google Calendar, and Samsung Calendar, DigiCal and CalDav synchronizer. How I got it all to work I have no idea, luck was with me that day!

Looks like a lot of reading in store, only hope I can understand it and do not wreck my PC.

If you have a MR backup job, then you can simply rt click that and create a differential image.
W10 seems my system is not yet ready for latest version.-1.png
    - that's what I use - created when I create the base- initial- image and differentials thereafter.
Don't know how that works out if you use scheduled imaging.

Make sure your image contains all the partitions comprising your O/S- normally 4 for a UEFI installation.

Then download the iso file using the MS media creation tool, so you have that to reattempt the upgrade if necessary.

    Disable the safeguard hold (tutorial)

To start the upgrade, once again:
Rt click the iso, click Mount (available by default)
Open the new drive letter created
    Double click setup.exe

That's one way to start the upgrade.

Please see below screenshot of my USB drive that I used previously to update Windows, it does I think have an Media creation tool or is an ISO update file. This was done 6 years ago so maybe okay maybe not. If it's just a way of getting the latest Windows file it may still be fine to use? Save making a new MCT?

To upgrade to the latest build in this case you need... the latest iso file.
    So you need to

    a. Google
    MS media creation tool

    b. Download and run that tool

    c. Use it to download an iso file.

And of course there's a tutorial - in the Tutorial section - for that
    Download Windows 10 ISO File

Thought it might save some time if it would work, I had printed out the tutorial from the link earlier.
    Worth a try......

I now have my new windows.iso in my documents folder.

So, next I have to use M Reflex to make a new 'differential' image.

"Make sure your image contains all the partitions comprising your O/S- normally 4 for a UEFI installation."
How can I verify all / 4 partitions? I think I am only using the BIOS as I have not come across any reference to UEFI. Please excuse my ignorance in these matters.

I will print up the tutorial on disabling safeguard, it's a new one on me. A little more bedtime reading.

Reckon I will continue this in the morning, been too a long day already.

After all the above use the windows.iso to update my PC. Y/N ?

    - - - Updated - - -

Hmmmm. Seems to me that the Safeguards feature is stopping my update because it sees a 'known issue' in my system. With no clue to what this known issue refers to, there is of course no realistic way of knowing what it is or how to remove it. A real gamble with the whole system.
Is it possible to find out what the issue may be?

    You haven't understood the tutorial
How to Disable Safeguard Holds for Feature Updates on Windows 10

It's simply on or off. Presumably you have Home. So you use Option 2 to disable (any and all) Safeguard protection.

I also quoted an article showing how IT admins might find more about what the hold is.
