How Do I Update W10 20H2?

21H1 may be slightly delayed. Your build is the latest (other than Insider builds).

Don't rush in. Take precautions. Use disk imaging regularly. Best to hang back a couple of months on feature upgrades- although this should be mostly a load of fixes, with most changes deferred to 21H2.

Thanks for this advice! I want to wait until 21H2 comes out. Please let me know if I set this correctly (currently on 1204 with Win10 Pro):

I went to group policy > Edit group policy > Local Computer Policy > Administrative Templates >Windows Components >Windows Update >Windows Update for Business > Select the target Feature Update version > Enabled & typed in 21H2

Hmm, well, depends what the build designation used for that will really be.

shows just the numbered builds.

21H1, 21H2 were in-house designations- I don't know if that's changing officially- seems as if it is- see comments too after the tutorial.

You could set two other policies just to be sure:
a. Set updates to Notify
b. Defer feature upgrades for 365 days.

With 21H2 being the new feature build and 21H1 minor, you don't want to be in early on 21H2.

Thank you! I already had updates set to Notify. I now set feature updates (there was no option for upgrades) to 30 days, as that was the maximum. I also set Windows Update For Business > Select When Preview Builds & Feature Updates are received to enabled. I chose semi-annual channel & 90 days.

Am I correct that that was what you were saying "Defer feature upgrades for 365 days"? I only did 90 because I figure they would get the kinks out by then.

I'm somewhat confused by the difference in choices of semi-annual channel, preview build (fast & slow), & release preview.

Well as to the deferral duration, you're aiming for, say, November (past the release date of 21H2 to allow some breathing space and analysis). That's about 6 months...or 180 days min.

I'd simply set 365 in group policy and then decide when you think it's safe after seeing the reaction from around October onwards. When ready, upgrade. Or not.

OK. Done. You've always had great advice! Still trying to figure out the difference between semi-annual channel, preview build (fast & slow), & release preview.
