My 16 month old laptop died. 20H2 damaged the OS and now cannot install either 2004 or 20H2. Both stop during installation because they are missing a driver. The attached is from the installation of 20H2.
The problem may be because the boot drive is a WD PCSN520 NVMe SSD M.2 128Gb. So, I am looking for a solution and exploring.
To start from the beginning, I reset the CMOS and reconfigured the the EFI/BIOS, but this doesn't help.
I know very little on PCI SSDs so unable to give an opinion.
But if I'm understanding your posts correctly, you were aware of a driver issue, did you try to resolve that first before further update attempts and why did you remove the CMOS battery?
If you are able to get in to your BIOS maybe resetting it to default values? see if PC boots, then a BIOS update if you think it necessary, then start again from there.
When you did the fresh install did you tell it to delete all existing partitions on the SSD. That way you would start with an SSD with 128GB of unallocated space. Windows setup would then automatically create any partitions it needed.
I am surprised that the Windows 10 setup didn't have all the basic drivers it needed. After the first time it connects to the Internet and runs Windows update it then can replace the basic drivers with with more manufacturer specific ones.
Mystery solved, and resolved. I had two drives in the laptop. The system drive is a 128GB WD M.2 SSD and a Patriot 128GB SSD I added as a data drive. Just as Windows was updating, the Patriot SSD crashed and brought down everything.
I found the problem by using Linux Mint Live key and checked the disks with GParted. The Patriot SSD was not listed but GParted spent 30 minutes scanning for it (dev/sdb) . I removed it, and now Windows is installed and I am configuring and adding the crucial apps. But, must buy a new SSD. :-(

Wipe software distribution multiple times over the months does nothing
between Aug and Dec LY I got an update and 3hrs of circles and undoing any time the machine was turned on
Manual updates won't apply
in the end used major geeks reg tweaks and enabled GPE (did nothing with it) but somehow it sorted life and it auto updated, and was happy, then a while later I noticed it offered 20H2 and it happily installed. So now on 20H2 home nasty single language 685
Since I get monthly updates to MRT and the MS AV updates automatically. But never Cumulative updates, but always looks and then gives a message saying its out of date.
Tried manually updating loads of recent iterations that should go on all the same sorry undoing 2hrs time wasting exercise
Win update repair said nothing wrong
Tried the in place upgrade last night, used the MS tool to do it....
comes up with auto selected wipe everything,
