Okay to clarify then, are you suggesting that I complete the installation of windows 10 on my desktop onto the SSD, uninstalling all other drives beforehand, then stopping the system from rebooting after the program prompts it, and then moving the SSD to the laptop?
If so, I have already done this although I might've not explicitly mentioned it in the original post, apologies for the confusion. If this is not what you meant, could you clarify what you mean?
- Install the SSD on your desktop.
- Detach all other drives (SATA o power cable) from the MB.
- Boot from the Win 10 installation drive as UEFI.
- Select to install on the SSD.
- After copying the files it will reboot from the SSD. When it shuts down to reboot, shut it down before it boots.
- Remove the SSD and install on the laptop.
- Boot it and it will begin the installation on the laptop.
If a clean install is done on a desktop, and the drive is transferred into a laptop, there is no guarantee that it will work. It may; Windows 10 is fairly good at sorting out drivers.
A quick scan of the thread makes me wonder why Windows isn't being put on the drive while it's in the laptop. The alptop may be slower, but I suggest doing it there to save time. (Which could be wasted messing around.) That assumes that the laptop can be booted form a USB drive.
Hi everyone, just adding one final reply to help anyone who happens to stumble across this thread with the same problem.
I finally it figured out thanks to Tekkie Boy, the first responder of the thread. You were correct, the SSD I was using was for some reason incompatible with my laptop (I don't know why), I used a Samsung SSD I got and the cloning worked flawlessly. Even with the fact that I cloned from 1tb down to 250gb, it worked fine! I slapped that baby into my laptop and it booted up normally, running like a dream too!
Seriously, thanks for everyone's help on this. I've felt stuck for almost a year now and I can't tell you how happy I am that it's finally been resolved. If anyone has a similar problem or question, feel free to contact me!
Glad you got it working.
Thanks for the feedback.
