Installation/Upgrade Question?

OK.

Give it a go and see what catches fire.

Cloning probably simplest as a first attempt.

Take a look at the Samsung software transfer instructions. If they are comprehensible, take a shot at it.

If that fails or if Samsung instructions are goofy, try Macrium cloning.

If that fails, try Macrium imaging.

I'd make sure any personal data on the existing hard drive was backed up first.

When available please update the progress with the steps in post #3.

Using Macrium Reflect, when you clone a disk, you drag and drop partitions from the old drive to the new drive. When you drag and drop the C: drive partition, you can resize it so that the 1TB SSD space gets filled.

I have bought the Samsung 970 EVO NVMe and it arrives in a day or two. How many and how big should I make the partitions?. At present I only have Windows 10 and various system neccessary programs on my EVO 850 120GB SSD leaving around 55GB of free space as I use my two HD drives for storage.

I play a game called Elite Dangerous but keep it stored on one of my HD's, the folder for it is around 25GB so there is plenty of room for it on the SSD prior to cloning as with a 1TB SSD there is plenty of room to keep it there now. My question is, do I just need to cut and paste the ED folder from the HD to the SSD prior to cloning or do I have to reinstall my game to the new NVMe SSD after cloning?.

Sorry the reason is that I will do that when the new NVMe SSD arrives somtime this week, therefore I am still studying form to coin a phrase.

You do not have to do anything to the game files, just leave them where they are.

It would be great if you could upload a shot using Partition Wizard showing your drive setup now, and not after you try the clone. So many people come here after they attempt a clone and wonder why windows won`t boot after they remove the source operating system drive.

I installed and ran that Tuneup.bat and it came up practically word for word the same as the one in the explanation link so it is not worth posting here as it all appears ok. Thanks

When available please post tuneup results.

It will be easier for you to restore an image.
A clone is likely to have boot problems.
