Need Help - Windows 7 to Windows 10 Upgrade Failures

I have an unusual situation, but one that I am hoping someone can help me with.

My pc has multiple hard disks. Each one has a power switch that can be operated when the system is powered off to select which will boot. Only one disk is powered on at a time. All of the hardware and OS are the same. In other words, I have one monitor, one printer, one motherboard, etc. All of my disks are 1 TB 7200 RPM SATA III drives. Most are from Seagate. All of the OS's are Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, same key/license etc. The only difference from one drive to another is the assortment of software. For example, one has Office 2016 Home and Business, another has Office 2000 Pro, another Office 2010 Home and Business, etc.

I have sucessfully loaded Windows 10 as an Upgrade onto 3 of my 7 drives. I am trying to load it onto drive number 4. So far, it always fails after reaching 100%.

(Oddly, there are no reboots attempted before 100%. The other 3 did actually reboot a few times before reaching 100%.)

Instead of rebooting and continuing, it just get the error window "Windows 10 Setup: Windows 10 Installation has failed."

I have tried switching from DVD-R with ISO on it to USB Flash and also tried online upgrade.
I have tried disconnecting from internet by removing the RJ-45 plug / cable.
I have tried asking for updates and also not asking for updates.
I have turned off my printer and everything else attached.
I have updated Windows 7 with Windows Update until there are no more updates to update.
I have manually updated Windows 7 Servicing Stack from Windows Catalog till there are no more updates for this feature.
I have adjusted partitions to make sure that there is 512 MB of unallocated space between partition C and partition E so that Win 10 can create its recovery partition.
I have made sure both C and E primary partitions (both on same hard disk) have loads of freespace.
I have run chkdsk /f /r /x on both partitions. C completed with no errors, E ran until it was checking freespace and I stopped it because I would have to have grandchildren to see it finish.
I used Paragon Hard Disk Manager Advanced 17.20 to "fix" crosslinked files on C and E. I don't know if there really are any or if it really fixed anything.
I removed every startup program except my audio driver.
I removed any non-essential programs.
There may be more things I tried. It has become a blur at this point.

I cannot fathom why this one drive will not upgrade when the 3 others before worked perfectly and seamlessly.

Help please. Someone knowledgable, please look at my logfiles and tell me if there is any clue in them.
I do not know how to interpret them or what to do next.

Why don't you do a clean install of Windows 7 on this drive and then upgrade it to Windows 10?

Another thing. It sound like you have a bunch of external drives. Can't you have some of them inside the computer and select which one to boot from the Windows boot menu.

I have a computer with three Seagate 1TB drives. When I boot the computer I can select to boot to Windows 10 or Windows 7.

Because of the volume of programs and data files on the drive, it would literally take me weeks to save all the data files, reinstall Win 7, update to Win 10, reinstall drivers, reinstall all of the application programs, set their preferences, restore all of the data files. I am trying to avoid such a nightmare. Even if I use one of my other drive's backup as a base set image to restore and then uninstall and reinstall etc., it would still take a tremendous amount of time. It would be much easier if someone knowledgeable could review my install logs and diagnose the problem.

My drives are internal. I have built wiring harnesses with military grade locking power switches to achieve what I have. Having all 7 drives spinning all the time would make a scrambled mess of my drive letters. I have had that happen in the past before I used locking switches as a fail-safe. Each drive is on a port to the motherboard along with the BD-R drive which is also internal. My motherboard has 8 SATA ports.

Can someone who understands the log files for Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrades please review my log files and give me an idea of where the problem is ?

The upgrade fails while cloning the BCD.


Can you run the following command in the command prompt as administrator:
bcdedit /v > %userprofile%\desktop\bcd.txt

This creates the bcd.txt file on the desktop.

I have uninstalled many of the programs that are no longer needed or obsolete, but I cannot remove any more.

I have tried switching the SATA cables, so as to use a port that was previously on a drive that successfully upgraded, and it still does not work, but I did upon reboot after switching the cable get an error message. It may have only been because I switched the cable. It read...

Please do that:
Open the command prompt as administrator again and then run the following commands:
bcdboot C:\Windows /l en-US /v > "%userprofile%\desktop\bcdboot.txt

and then:
bcdedit /v > %userprofile%\desktop\bcd.txt

When done upload the bcd.txt and bcdboot.txt from your desktop.

I must have typed something incorrectly.

My pc would no longer boot. I had to use the Win 7 install disk to do a repair.

Once I was able to boot, I attempted to upgrade again. Same failure.

Sorry, I should have told you to be careful with the bcdboot command.

If you haven't started the update again after executing the commands, I would like to ask you to do it again now.

If it fails again, I need new log files.
