    Thanks again.

This time it was the right files.

Now I can tell you why your feature window is empty, the updates don't work and the in-place upgrade fails.

The Software registry hive is corrupt and that is why the errors are there.

Do you create backups and maybe you have an older backup which is okay?

    repair install failing

No I do not unfortunately. My restore points do not go back that far. Also I got an external hardrive in February and I have copies of my os image. but my problem must have happened early on right after I purchased a new pc in october of 2020

Please download the Tool RegBak and unzip the Package.

Start the regbak64.exe in the Package, click on "New backup" and then click on "Browse" and go to the path of the external hard drive, click on "Make a folder" and give the folder a name that suits you, then click on "Ok" and then on "Start" to create a backup of the registry. When done you can click twice on "Close" to close the window and the program.

Then check that the files are available on the external disk.

When you've done that, please report back here.

I did as you requested. I created a folder called "repair" on my external hardrive and ran the backup to that folder. The folder has the backup in it.

    Okay.

I still have to prepare something.

Just do something else in the meantime.

I'll get back to you here.

    @lucydog

Download SFCFix.exe and save this to your Desktop.
Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop too.
Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
Save any open documents and close all open windows.
On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.

SFCFix will now process the script.
Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
    Then upload the SFCFix.txt here.

    Thanks.

Download this Package and save it on your desktop (And don't save anywhere else!) :
    WeTransfer

Unzip the package and then start the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST64.exe) with a right click on it as administrator.

    Answer the Disclaimer with yes.

Wait until the tool shows "The Tool is ready to use".

And then click on the "Fix" Button.

When it is done you will find 2 files on the desktop: Fixlog.txt and the cbs.txt.

Upload the two files to wetransfer.com.

I assume that the cbs.txt will be very large.
