I have now checked my Windows installation, where the upgrade worked.

Inside the Windows folder there are three log files, which contain information about the upgrade process. These are:
    • setupact.log
    • DtcInstall.log
    • WindowsUpdate.log (this file gets appended each time a new update is installed or even only checked for; you will have to scroll a bit through this file until you get to the relevant information).

Apart from that, I found this list: (Written for Windows Vista, but the process basically still is the same.) Note how it tells you which additional files you should have, when the upgrade -like in your case- failed. The last few lines in these files might be very interesting.

Maybe it helps, if you post the relevant parts of these logs here. I guess we should then at least be able to identify what the last and fatal error was in your case...
Thanks Joergi. For now i have removed the KB and hidden the updates. I will update the thread with log output when i plan to upgrade to windows 10 which doesn't seem anytime soon.

    Thank you.

If you don't care about the currently installed Apps, just reset the current install back to factory settings then use the Windows 10 upgrade tool.

Read somewhere that the latest Win 10 Insider Prev will be upgrades to Win 10 full when it is released. A good idea to install this sooner rather than upgrading Win 7 / 8.1 to 10?
