Oh sorry, it is Minitool- for some reason I thought it was missing some info as 'Recovery' was not shown, but that's just a label anyway.

My guess is that the upgrade attempt is rolling back cause of the lack of space to create a larger Recovery partition. But it could be something else entirely.

Security software can be a headache- if you uninstall Comodo you have Windows Defender AV and firewall.

setupact.log, setuperr.log and maybe your Update History may show more. Noted you refer to an error nnumber.

The Media Creation Tool to create USB updater; fails @ 55% in the blue
    - normally that would be used to create an iso file, if upgrading manually: mount the iso file, open new drive letter, double click setup.exe. I presume the creation of a USB disk succeeded.

(You can also log in and then run setup.exe from such a disk).

Personally I'd make 1Gb free space after C: , uninstall Comodo and try again just to see if there's any change.

    After that it's analysis time.

As dalchina commented please uninstall Comodo software using the applicable uninstall tool.

Open the Toshiba website > support > enter the serial number > view drivers and BIOS > post a URL and links into this thread

When available post share links for tuneup and LOGS.

    Run:

DiskParInfo.bat - Click here to go to the BSOD batch repository to download and run this batch file.

Upgrade_failure_info.bat - Click here to go to the BSOD batch repository to download and run this batch file.

V2 and DM: BSOD - Posting Instructions

Thank you both for your replies. Lots for me to do but unfortunately I've been called out on a job so won't be able to tackle your suggestions till this evening. Will feedback ASAP after that.

    Cheers

    Hi @dalchina and @zbook,

Just some quick clarifications; I made a mistake earlier re the Partition info I explained earlier. It is actually as corrected below.

    - The original Win 7 Recovery Partition ~400MB
    - The primary boot partition (i.e. C: drive), originally Win 7 now Win 10 ~232GB
    - A second Recovery Partition (i.e. C: drive) created when I upgraded Win 7 to Win 10 ~669MB
    - A fourth, general purpose partion (D: drive) as original provided from new, and which I use for storing of odds and sods e.g. photos, MP3s, videos etc ~232GB.
FYI @dalchina the second Recovery Partion, was created automatically (and silently) by the Win 10 upgrade process when I moved up from Win 7. But there was no unallocated space before the upgrade - the installer created the space (~669MB) of its own accord. I'm not sure therefore that a lack of space is my current problem.

Anyway, I'm now going to have another upgrade attempt, without AV and using an ISO, as suggested.

Will update you on outcome accordingly.

    Hi @dalchina and @zbook,

Its taken almost 3 hours but happy to report that the upgrade has completed with Winver now showing 20H2 Build 19042.867.

There were a few odd observations during the process but first signs are looking good with laptop basically working, no obvious errors visible and all previous apps still present.

Its a bit late (and I'm tired) to check further for now, but I will take this opportunity to thank you both for your help.

    Cheers for now,

    Glad that worked out

Now- before it's too late- start a new regime of regular and routine disk imaging so you can quickly and easily recover- even if you have to replace the disk- e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + large enough external disk for image files.

That also verifies your disk content's integrity and provides a full backup. Recommended endlessly here.

    Thanks @dalchina for the advice

I do already keep backups, but always interested in something new (especially if its properly free!) so will certainly check out Macrium, which I've heard of before but never felt the need to persue.

Disk imaging is completely different to backing up selected files, if that's what you do.

Consider what you'd do if your O/S became irrecoverably unbootable, or your disk failed. Or your PC was stolen.

If you have image backups, first of all partitions comprising your O/S, then as you wish of any others, stored separately, you can recover without outside help. Macrium's one of several such, but perhaps the most robust. Just not the simplest GUI- that would be Aomei's (Chinese).

Ive been trying to fix this on an office computer for ages.

Manually installed the latest servicing stack update and that seemed to fix it. Can't believe this issue has been mentioned so much on the internet and most people seem to resolve it by reinstall the machine. Unless its just me....

Be interested to know if this helps anyone, usually i'm the one googling around everywhere for answers.

Hi, just to check- are you referring to an update or an upgrade failure being resolved? I've seen a couple of cases where an update failed because the SSU had not been installed. I've read MS intends to package the SSU and update together in future.
