Can't update Windows from 1909

Hello,
I can't update my old laptop. It didn't even update from 1909 to the May 2004 update (And it's already 20H2). I didn't care but now I get notifications all the time about end of support for 1909 and that I should update.

I guess some parts of my laptop (hardware/drivers?) aren't compatible. I tried to disable a few drivers but still nothing.

I tried to download the update assistant tool "Windows10Upgrade9252", but my laptop crashed and got stuck at 48% of the update, and then it restored

Any way to tell what is the issue?

Update: I ran the assistant again and this time it worked.

I'm not sure that what I did is what fixed it, but my laptop has dual graphics, so I turned the second graphics card in BIOS and then updated again (It's funny because the second graphics card is almost the same performance as the Intel one.. lol I never used it)

Thanks very much for your post - let me try and answer some of your queries.

# Not sure what you mean by a 3rd party partition manager; the one I provided is from MiniTool Partition Wizard 12 and as displayed is showing:

- The original Win 7 Recovery Partition ~400MB
- The primary boot partition, originally Win 7 now Win 10 ~232GB
- A second Recovery Partition (i.e. C: drive) created when I upgraded Win 7 to Win 10 ~669MB
- A fourth, general purpose partion (D: drive) as original provided from new, and which I use for storing of odds and sods e.g. photos, MP3s, videos etc ~232GB.

# I manually updated to Win 10 @Jan 2020, then @ Aug 2020 was offered the Feature Update 2004. However despite numerous attempts to execute itself, over 2-3 weeks, it always failed and I've been left with the offer still showing ever since, although never relaunching itself again since, nor providing a manual option to do so. I dont remember any specific error messages nor anything along the lines of "your machine is not ready/supported yet".

# I have tried several methods very recently to upgrade manually (the current on offer being 20H2):
- The Update Assistant; failed with a popular 0x8 code - dont remember which one now.
- The Media Creation Tool to create USB updater; fails @ 55% in the blue "Installing Windows 10" - I might have a crash dump still of the last one of those.
- Media Creation Tool to "Update This PC Now"; takes longer than above USB method but with similar looking fail at similar progress point - I might have a crash dump still of that.

# Before any of the above I also executed the Update Reset Process provided by member @Brink, but although it seemed to work as expected I still get no new updates offered via Check For Updates (although I still seem to be receiving Security updates - last one was KB50000808 @ 11 March).

Interesting comments about Comodo and two Recovery Partitions. I know Comodo can be awkward but I'm always nervous about spending time online with AV disabled - and the installer spends ages "getting ready" and downloading "updates". So can I trust Defender for protection in the interim?

As for the 2 Rec Parts - I'm wondering about those as well now. I suppose I could delete one/both of them - they dont seem to have a lot of value?...
