really??? windows upgrades delete previous settings

the the last 3 'mandatory' upgrades have reset a bunch of settings like taskbar items and even some product installs, such that I have to resupply my registration, eg, office, textpad, faststone

    WHATS UP WITH THAT?????

how rude and lame, is this happening to anybody else? is there a way to prevent this?

100's of previous upgrades never did this....

166,000 employees can't do better than this?

Most of us have a habit to revisit settings not only for Windows but also for Edge chromium, Windows store app and similar programs.
Many times over I find updates to either of these 3 restore settings to some new defaults.

It's definitely rude to reset user settings some of which control privacy but I guess that's just a method to promote new features?

The twice-yearly Version Upgrades do tend to set things to default and customizations can be lost, don't see it too much with the monthly Build updates. I save the custom settings so they can be done again but have never seen the programs mentioned have changes.

    pushing their own apps

the taskbar items get replaced with edge, microsoft store and ms mail, I thought they got busted for behavior like this? unfairly pushing their own apps because they have the o/s

I recall only once some setting change in edge but don't know which one, it was some major update, since then I revisit these as well.
Other time it was due me testing logging into store apps with MS account, some settings and even bookmarks were lost but nothing drastic because I had a backup, could be due to a bug ofc.

Not to mention Windows sync, it doesn't work as expected at all, I only later figured out there is a list of what gets saved and what not. the point is many setting saving features work in unexpected way.
