Upgrade system 1909 version to 2004 (19041) version

Hello,Planning to upgrade my system 1909 version to 19041 (2004) version. (In-Place upgrade).I have the "Win10_2004_English_x64 (19041.264).iso" file (11-May-2020), and about 37 update files downloaded from the catalog, dated from the iso file creation date and forward. After upgrade is finished, do I have to install those updates one by one, or install only the last SSU file and then the last Cumulative update file. (Auto update is disabled).I remember I asked you a similar question when upgraded from 1809 to 1903 version, I am asking again, may be something changed.By the way, 19042 version not yet.Answers will be appreciated.ThanksMotim

If you use the iso and choose to have updates applied during the procedure, the latest updates will be applied automatically.

If you don't, but then run Windows Update afterwards, the appropriate updates will be applied. Remember that updates are cumulative- that is, the latest will include any earlier ones not already applied.

As you have Pro, you can choose to defer upgrades.
Also, you can set updates to Notify in group policy, giving you further control.

Always use disk imaging at appropriate points- of all partitions comprising the O/S. Just in case.

If you insist on in place upgrade why bother with catalog files and an out of date ISO?

why not jump ahead of time and upgrade straight to build 19042 (20H2)?

By the way, 19042 version not yet
People who start fresh by downloading Windows have no other option but to download latest build, I guess you're afraid of something going wrong? if so it's better to wait for the update to be offered I think, because if it's not there could likely be issues.

Hello,Thanks for the answer. If I understand your answer, then after making all possible backups, system image, and running the in-place upgrade with the iso file. From all the big list of updates, I have to install only the latest SSU (right now its KB4598481), then the latest Cum updt (right now its KB5000802), this will update the system to 19041.867.Am I right ?Thanks again.Motim

As a minimun, use the latest iso, run Windows Update and sit back.

You might get 1 or more driver updates.. and 1 or perhaps 2 Windows updates depending.

Then there might be odd other things like a Net framework update, say.

It all depends what's happened since the iso came out.

If you really feel the need to take control of the update process, then update using the iso offline (disconnect the internet) then use a tool like Option 7 in the tutorial on disabling Windows Update or WUMGR to scan for updates so you can select from check boxes. But that's really more for control freaks if your PC is current, unless you are expecting a particular compatibility issue.

Of course there are some good reasons where people experiencing incompatibility or who wish to stay on a given build legitiimately use such tools.
