Any ideas why this preview update is being installed

    Hi folks

I'm running a W2k19 server as a VM -- I'm only enrolled in the insider option for W10 so I'm a bit confused as to why I'm getting a preview update for W2K19 server -- the server installed is a "Retail" version (got from Work) not a "Trial" system.

I don't mind of course but still confused.

Any ideas why this preview update is being installed-2021.png

    Cheers

Everyone seems to get these .NET previews - this was on a 'retail' W10 Pro...

The preview CU's are normally seen as 'optional' in W10 Pro or Home. Maybe Server doesn't know how to handle optional updates? Or did you click 'Check for updates'? If so, that may have been interpreted as wanting to download optional updates.

EDIT: I see that your Server 2019 is basically version 1809. As I recall, there was an odd side-effect in 1809 of deferring Feature Updates (even if only by 1 day). If you did so the C/D release CUs would never be seen. You could try that if you don't want these previews. See this thread for more on how 1809 behaved with these C/D releases...

Please explain this to me, lol - KB4497934 - crazy.

yeah that seems to be common with the server OS's. I recently went through to create a slipstream updated version of server 2019 and didn't grab the "preview" updates when I was packing in the updates. I was surprised when I loaded my built copy of server 2019 and hit Windows update to see if I missed anything and the preview updates were downloaded.
