Hi guys.

Need your advice as I'm literally banging my head against the wall...

My specs are included in the profile description + see following link for full info (HP Notebook - 17-y042ur):
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05333465

Windows Version number: 2004 19041.572

Situation Description:

At some point I needed to turn DirectPlay on, but my "Turn Windows Feature On And Off" dialog was empty.
Plus after further investigation I found out that my Windows Updates wasn't correctly working since the last days of January (error code "0x80070570"). So something needs to be fixed...

I found a thread with the similar problem:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...7-8702716d54ca

  • My "Windows Modules Installer service" is running, but I still get a blank dialog.
  • "Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -FeatureName "LegacyComponents" -All -Online" results in "Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature : %1 is not a valid Win32 application"
  • "sfc /scannow" results in "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service"
  • "DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" results in 193 error with description from logs "Failed to load the image session from the temporary location: ..."

Okay, seems like I need a Repair Install.
I used "https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html" as a manual.
I removed my 3-party AV, disabled Secure Boot and chose to install using Media Creation Tool.

  1. on first try I got a BSOD on 23% of installation "thread stuck in device driver". I periodically see this error, so it's not something new. I just restarted the whole process
  2. on second try I saw exactly the same error on exactly the same percents. Okay, got it. Switched my videocard to internal (M5) instead of discrete (M7)
  3. On third try I managed to get to 67%, but then saw a common error dialog "That was a problem during Windows 10 installation" (it's a translation from my language so the exact phrase in English may be a little different).
In "setupdiagresults.xml" I see "Error: SetupDiag reports Optional Component installation failed to open OC Package.Last Phase: Pre-Finalize Last Operation: Process Drivers for MigrationPackage Name: FoundationError: 0x8007001F".
It suggests to turn "TrustedInstaller" on. I checked - and yes, that service was disabled again. As an "msiserver" service too.
  4. On fourth try I manually enabled those two services before the final installation step (step 14 in the manual). But still got them turned off in the end with the same error.

Those two services keep turning off even during the install preparation (when win 10 is being downloaded, for example).
At this point I'm left with no ideas. Google isn't helping

Any guidance is much appreciated :)
