Acer laptop shows recycle bin and lower tool bar

I have an Acer ASpire laptop which after updating to windows 10, the screen displays the recycle bin, the cursor, the lower toolbar, it cannot connect to internet and the sound icon has an "X"

I pulled the battery to see if it would continue but to no avail but did get a notice saying " desktop not available etc ect"

I can right click on the screen and get context menu's to appear but nothing that I can get any further with.

If I right click on the sreen and select "Display Settings" I get a message saying" This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action etc etc"

Anyone any ideas where to go from here?

Sounds like something went wrong during the upgrade...

I had a similar issue: No internet connection, but not because the WLAN adapter would not be working, but because some WLAN service had not been started, and desktop icons were missing (just to name the obvious things). In my case I directly after start-up got a message saying something like: "You could not be logged into your profile. You do not have access to your personal files and folders. All changes you do now will be discarded once you restart the PC."

Is this your problem? You can check this e.g. by trying to access files inside your user folder. Can you access them? Or do you not have permission to do so?

The Recycle Bin is normal, why is that an issue ?

As far as ethernet, maybe there are no drivers installed.

Possibly the same for the sound issue. Post a shot of disk management.

When I wake up the computer I get the login screen, I put the password in, I get a black screen with the recycle bin, the lower tool bar and the cursor, the start icon is there but nothing happens if I click on it, the search bar is there but I cannot type anything in it. I cannot access anything any further. except right clicking on the screen will give me menu's but really cant do anything with them.
I am wondering if I try reinstalling the OS from a Disk?

And is there a notification stating "You've been signed in with a temporary profile"?

Any way to get a program started? Pressing Win+R should open the "Execute" prompt. If that works, you can then use it to type names of programs like "explorer" or "regedit" and then hit Enter. This should start the according program - does that work?

Yes that did work (explorer) but I got " the server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect, please check the username and password)
I shall talk to the person who owns the computer and see if he has another password etc
