Cheapest Way To Upgrade Vista To Win 10 Home With Legitimate Key?

I have two old Vista 32 bit Laptops that I would like to upgrade to Win 10 home with legitimate keys without breaking the bank. One is mine and one is for a friend. By legitimate, I don't mean if they will work, but I mean Microsoft approved and properly licenced keys. Microsoft are selling their retail keys online for about €140. I have found a website that claims to be a Microsoft partner and selling Win 10 home retail for €120. But to be quite honest, I don't feel its worth upgrading old laptops for such a high cost, otherwise I would get a refurbished Win 10 machine. I have found other sites selling Win 10 home oem for €10 but I want to stay clear of those. There are local system builders who say they can install Win 10 with a Microsoft approved system builder licence for €60 + labour. Other back street shops want €20.

This has got me very confused. I know how to do the installation myself. Can someone please advise me of the cheapest legitimate option to purchase a Microsoft Win 10 home key to install on these old machines? Where do reputable system builders get their licence keys from?

    Kind regards
    Chris

You will have to clean install Win 10. As FreeBooter says, there's no upgrade path.

You might first consider whether Win 10 will run on them at all. It may be there are no appropriate drivers, or you experience odd issues like stutter.

First at least try booting them from a Win 10 live boot disk. Or put a spare disk and try installing Win 10, before considering a license. Then you will also see what sort of performance you get.

If they are 32 bit PCs then your safest option would be 32 bit Windows.

There was an offer posted here some months back that was valid for Win 10 Pro under $40 or so from reputable sources.

Thank you FreeBooter and Dalchina for your advice. I agree it would be a good idea to test Win 10 before buying a licence. I think it will run.

Does anyone know where to find the legitimate offer for Win 10 offer for under $40?

    Kind regards

Not to be contrary, but it's technically possible to upgrade Vista to 10. It can't be done directly, and a Vista license doesn't qualify for a free upgrade.

First you'd have to upgrade to 7. (Maybe 8?) That could be upgraded to Win10.

Whether any sane person has ever done that, I can't say. A clean install would be preferable. If you have 4GB of RAM, I'd recommend X64 over the 32 bit version. I put X64 on a 2008 vintage laptop with 4GB, and it ran well enough.

I have no idea of the source of the low-priced Win10 licenses out there. I see very cheap links on sites that aren't anything like Dark Web locations. (Example: Guru3D.com) Whether Microsoft would blacklist thoise licenses in future, I can't guess. I'd wager that the licenses would work in the short term, though. Feeling lucky?

Upgrades with windows 7 and 8.1 to 10 are still free.

So in addition to shopping for Windows 10 you may be able to shop for 7 and 8.1.

The added risk is the ability to upgrade without problems.

    Another consideration is 32x > 64x.

Can You Still Get Windows 10 for Free? Yes! Here’s How (Updated)

    Code:
Microsoft offers a 90 day trial of its Windows 10 Enterprise edition.
Windows 10 Enterprise is normally distributed under Microsoft’s volume license program for large organizations that deploy Windows 10 in bulk.
It’s a full-featured edition of the operating system but in this case, it’s really an evaluation version of the software.
Users must register before they can download and install the software.
This option is perfect for those users who are running Windows Vista or never had a genuine license, to begin with.

Thank you all for your replies. Both these laptops are 32 bit and I suspect the maximum ram is 2Gbt so I am stuck with that. I do believe they will run on Win 10; I will test first.

The difficulty is choosing genuine software for a reasonable price. The prices vary from $10 to $20 to $100-$120 for professed Microsoft resellers. I did contact my local Microsoft help line to ask if they could provide an approved list of Microsoft resellers. I was politely told that apart from the official Microsoft store, they could not provide such information. Go figure!

There are so many websites that say their software is good but I am somewhat hesitant.

Please let me know if anyone has had a positive experience with a genuine Microsoft reseller.

    Kind regards

    A couple of links for you to check below;

    I can't vouch for either.

The second one was highly touted here as a source for Office a few months back. They also sell Windows.

You're going to buy a questionable license to use on an old computer? With only 2G of memory?
Install a Linux for free (Mint ) or buy a refurbished Win 7, 8 or 10 with at least 4G of memory.
