Need advice - Reset Win10 laptop; it's hung for several hours at 99%

My son made a few errors with his laptop and created unstable performance. I chose to reset it and wipe data thoroughly rather than quickly. This was late morning. I moved on to preparing for our Thanksgiving after initiating this process. The blue window has been on the screen for some time with the status message 'Resetting this pc 99%.' The laptop has been in this state since 12 noon - 1 pm. At this hour I have developed some concern something is wrong. However, I am choosing to leave the laptop as it currently sits overnight. The only action I can take ir to press the power button and despite my concerns with the duration this involves I do not see this to be wise.

This laptop is a lenovo X230 w/i5-3210M, 8GB RAM, and Win10 Pro.I purchased the laptop used in its current state.

Wise or not you have no choice... well, except to unplug the power supply and let the batteries run dead.

Yes. A message indicating all the date was unable to be deleted was then displayed and encouraged me to repeat the process if my intent was to sell the computer. No need to hold this concern. It is up an running now. Thanks.
