    Bios mode question

I checked bios mode in system info after downloading the 20H2 upgrade and it says Legacy should it be saying UEFI instead? Thanks!

Legacy or UEFI refers to the BIOS of the PC, not to the Windows OS itself. Whether you PC is Legacy BIOS or UEFI depends on what motherboard it has and how old it is.

Windows can run equally well on a Legacy BIOS machine with an MBR formatted hard drive, or a more modern UEFI BIOS machine using a GPT hard drive.

That m/board has a UEFI bios, but it appears that when you first installed Windows you set it for Legacy support (CSM mode).

To ensure backward compatibility, most UEFI firmware implementations on PC-class machines also support booting in legacy BIOS mode from MBR-partitioned disks, through the Compatibility Support Module (CSM) that provides legacy BIOS compatibility.

This means you would have booted from the install USB in Legacy mode, and that it would have installed Windows in an MBR partition layout. Subsequently upgrading Windows to 20H2 cannot change a Legacy/MBR install to a UEFI/GPT one.

There's no real benefit in changing the system from Legacy/MBR to UEFI/GPT, Windows performance is the same in both. And a Legacy system supports usinng GPT on all its other hard drives, it's only the drive it boots from that has to be MBR.

If you really wanted to go for UEFI/GOPT, the easiest option is to do a clean install. The more complicated option is to follow this tutorial.

Convert Windows 10 from Legacy BIOS to UEFI without Data Loss

Personally I would leave it as it is, but make a note to use UEFI if you ever decide you need to do a clean install.

As I said, there's no real benefit to be gained - and a lot of risk if you're not confident of your skills. Don't bother to try. Just make a note to use UEFI if you ever feel that it's time for a clean install.

How many partitions do you prefer?

Legacy / MBR has few partitions
UEFI / GPT has the ability to create > 100

as others have said and i will say if it isn't broke don't fix it, i would leave as is myself no real gain at all, you will not see any difference in changing it at all.

No, it does not have to be UEFI. Your Bios should have an option to set it up as Legacy & UEFI, you don`t have to pick one or the other.

I setup my OS drive as MBR, I like having only 1 partition for windows.

I setup my install drive with Partition Wizard, but it also can be setup with Diskpart.
