    Hello @sdowney717,

Might have been, I was surprised to see the desktop icons there.

Anyways it worked. And none of my files and folders were left elsewhere on the disk, I had to copy all of them back on the disk. It was a blank slate look, no downloads, documents, etc.. were left behind. No folders I had created to hold my chart files. This PC was before the update, a very minimal install, so not terribly difficult to get the files back on the drive. So i was very surprised to see desktop icons, but things like links were all white, so dead.
A corrupted install could have caused this!

Yes, I believe that the prior working install was corrupted. But this one has been good.

I have a long thread on this, that install started failing me, I could not get authentication to visit certain websites, link Bing, com etc... so I started over

If you were happy with the way the computer worked when you first got it, then use the reset option, although this will probably include some bloatware.
I've just performed the Reset option thinking it would restore this HP notebook back to its condition when I bought it in December. I needed to reset, because I'm sending this HP notebook back to HP for warranty replacement of the keyboard. The number 6 key on the number pad stopped working. When this HP notebook comes back from HP, I'll perform the Win 10 Pro clean install.

The reset didn't restore the computer to its newly purchased condition. HP sold this computer with Win 10 Home and I upgraded to Pro via the Microsoft Store.

The reset operation left me with Win 10 Pro v2004, which is what I had before the reset. I was expecting Win 10 Home v1903.

You can't downgrade from Pro to Home unless you do a clean install.

OK, thanks guys for all the information. I'm not a newbie at this, because I usually build my own desktops. But, I don't do it often. It's been about five years since I last performed a clean install of Win 7. I'm new to Win 10, becuase I held off until Microsoft ended support for Win 7. I only upgraded to Win 7, because I damaged my Win XP disk. That was a mistake, because Win 7 was a good OS. I don't like Win 10, because of the way Microsoft forces updates, to include Preview Updates.

HP is sending their HP recovery media. It's v1903 with HP bloatware. I won't use it. They're sending it, because they haven't posted updated device drivers for v2004 and they can't say when they'll be available.

Is the Ten Forums Win 10 Clean Install tutorial still current? I planning to do an ISO install unless there's a good reason to do a USB install.

I'm planning on building a new desktop for Win 10, because my current hardware is old and device drivers are not supported in Win 10. So, I'm looking for good motherboard and Intel cpu.

You can only do a clean install by booting from a USB flash drive (or DVD).

Yes, I realize that. I'm planning to burn an ISO to a double layer DVD. If I get the install I want, I'll save the clean install image for future recoveries.

The "cloud recovery tool" gives the option to only download the drivers, but Spectre doesn't seem to be listed
