    Quick Window10 2004 to 20H2 update question !

    Hi Guys
I updated to Win10 2004 last friday 23rd from 1909 with no problems , and I'm wanting to know when I will be offered the 20H2 update as its not appearing in Win Update . ( I used disk cleanup to remove Windows.Old thinking it might trigger the update , but no joy ! )
I have read the wait may be 31 days ! is this true?

    thanks in advance

    Charlie

Hello @Cheeky Charlie , Welcome to Ten Forums.

You can update right now to 20H2 via the Enablement Package, or just wait until Microsoft delivers it to you...

As I understand it you are correct. I believe that after a feature update Windows has a grace period of a month in which windows update will not offer or install another feature update even if you are ready for it.

In the case of 20H2 this is further complicated by the fact that Microsoft are running a phase rollout, not everyone who is ready for 20H2 will see it in the first weeks.

    Microsoft said:
...,we are taking a measured seeker-based rollout approach to the October 2020 Update. We are throttling availability over the coming weeks to ensure a reliable download experience, so the update may not be offered to you right away...

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. The only really significant change from 2004 to 20H2 is that the tiles on Start are translucent. Oh, and you'll have Chromium Edge instead of Legacy Edge - but you could install that yourself if you haven't already got it.

It's a preview of non-security fixes, and entirely up to you if you want to install it. If you don't then the same patches (and some more, including new security patches) will be in the next 'Patch Tuesday' cumulative update on November 12th.

If you are affected by any of the issues listed in 'Improvements and Fixes' here....

    KB4580364 CU Windows 10 v2004 and v20H2 build 19041.610 and 19042.610

...then it's an early opportunity to get the fixes, if not then it does no harm to wait.
