Update to version 2004 is not working so good

i have tried several different ways to update my windows 10 pro v 1909 to v2004 and they all come out with same result.
windows works but when i rightclick on the startmenu and choose device manager for example nothing happens. almost all the options in the rightclick menu are unable to open that way.

i have tried to install the kb that fixes major problems, the kb4571744, but i get the message that it can not be installed on my machine and i selected the x264 for win10 when downloading the kb.

i have tried to update to v2004 from regular windows update, windows 10 update assistant and media creation tool,

when i run sfc/scannow on my pc it finds no errors.
i had avira antivirus installed but i uninstalled it with revo uninstaller before the update to v2004.

what can be wrong here and what other ways can i try to make a successful update to v2004 with no errors?

    Hello Octopolus,
Run dism option 5 and see if it finds any problems.
Use DISM to Repair Windows 10 Image

Create a second account on your PC and see if the same problem happens there. Always a good idea to have a backup second local account for debugging issues, etc.

Confirm your Windows install is actually 64-bit by running Win+R msinfo32 . Look at System Type line. Also what version of Windows 10 is installed from the Version line on same screen.

In addition to what Steve proposed in the post above, if DISM is not successful, you can Reset Windows, or Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

msinfo32 shows that its x264 windows.

Sorry - run this from admin powershell "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth"

I like to save the nuclear in-place upgrade option for last, but as @AndreTen suggested, that may be the thing to try if we can't fix it any other way. You won't lose any personal files or apps if that's a concern.

Please open a command prompt and provide the full version number like: Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19041.572]

What is x264? Can you provide a screenshot of where x264 came from?

The Mobo seems to be from around 2012-2014. Official driver support is to Win 8.1
    P8H61-MX R2.0 Driver & Tools | Motherboards | ASUS Global

Similarly the graphics card is from around 2012.

Were you actually offered 2004 via Windows Update?

    x64 != x264 as you keep writing.
Do you not have admin privileges on this account?
If you have .572, you don't need the older KB you are trying to install as the update from October which you have includes the fixes from September.

Your PC will probably work fine. I have much older PCs running Windows 10 2004 and so far there's no indication of driver issues.

Why do you care about upgrading to 2004 now? What do you think you are going to get? I happily run 1909 with upgrade to 2004 deferred for 365 days.

Don't worry about those drivers. Best to not install them.
From File Manager, can you go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0
Then run powershell.exe by right-clicking and Run as Admin ?
