Same here, although the SFC took a bit longer than usual, what with all the new files.

Came up fine on both PC`s

The AskVG article you quote specifically says: "Windows 8 users must update to Windows 8.1 (which is free) to be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free via Windows Update." (my bold). That is the same as using the GWX app and has the same limitations.
Updating via Windows Update or the Media Creation tool requires Windows 8.1

Microsoft says the same thing (link posed above).

Has nothing to do with GWX, which has been dead now for a long time.

Whoever "Mystere" is doesn't know what they're talking about.

Let's wait to see what OP receives. The laptop will probably already has Win 8.1
Even if it doesn't he can do a clean install using a Clean Install using Win 8.x activation without needing to upgrade first.

Well.. @OldNavyGuy, apparently @Mystere and @Bree know a little bit more about it than you and Microsoft do. Because I just loaded up Windows 8 Pro in a VM, and I upgraded it to Windows 10. I mounted the 20H2 iso file and ran setup.exe from it in Windows 8.

There are members on this forum who know more about Windows than Microsoft does.

    Here is the final result:

I assure you, WIndoiws 8 and Windows 7 RTM can be upgraded with media to windows 10. You just can't do it online, those require 8.1 and 7 SP1

It was already proven above (Post #25) with a Windows 10 version 20H2 ISO file.

    LOL...that's possible.

However, I'll stick with Microsoft as the resource for their products.

    You're not one of them.

I would say Brink, Ed Tittel, and Kari would probably be in that category.
