Strange issue with old ACER laptop (Vista era)

I have just reformatted an old ACER laptop (Vista era) which had w7 installed on it.

It has got 3GB of DDR2 RAM.

For some weird reason I cannot install x86 version on it because Windows Installer keeps shutting down and restarting the machine.

x64 version seems to be installing just fine.

I love those Phoenix BIOSes where you had video and system BIOS SHADOWED.

I spoke too early. I cannot install neither x86 nor x64 version. On phase 2, after first reboot I got a message saying something like "Windows installer cannot configure Windows to un on this hardware".

    Model is ACER Aspire 5735.

PS - Trying IDE mode instead of AHCI. I will look for a BIOS update if available.

    Well. I am stumped.

    Using IDE mode changed nothing.
Updated BIOS from 1.07 to 1.08 (latest) and still nothing.

Did MS remove support for ICH9M on v2004? I am going to try installing v1909

I have 2004 running happily on ICH9M equipped HP laptops (but these were not clean installed which may make a difference?)

I'll assume you are using a usb ? try a different port.

Turn off secure boot options and all bios sleep modes.
    repartition mbr , format NTFS.

    try again.

    Just a note:
Acer can be weird at least one usb port is recognized by the bios over the others.
I guess it intended for installation purposes.
normally it is on the right-hand side.

Thanks. I have been able to install v1909 x86.

The power adapter connector is quite dislodged and power cuts off every now and then. Battery is dead too. As soon as I make a Macrium Reflect backup I will try installing v2004 on top of it.

PS - I think one out of three usb ports is dead too.

I hate to say this but what you are saying suggests motherboard failure in the near future
or that the computer has been dropped .
When you get the the time . Open the back and try to see the connectors both to the power supply
    and the usb ports.
fixing broken connections is a delicate problem sure hands and light solder .

I don't think connectors are physically broken. It's just its adaptor isn't the original one and it doesn't fit into the power connector that well. Installing v2004 to see what happens now.

It has been running stable for 1h now. Fingers crossed.

Behind the cpu there exist a nec-tokin capacitor.
When that capacitor fails the system can stay in bios because there the acer bios use only one core.
When you install windows it uses two cores and it cant provide stable juice.
If your system is not steady this is the solution:
