Should i upgrade to windows 10 from Windows 7 Professional to run 4k

Hi i have windows 7 Pro and I am thinking of moving from 2 x Full HD 27 inch monitors to 4k or maybe just 2k.

    System Specs:
    INTEL CORE i5 2500K 3.3GHz 6MB
    COOLERMASTER HYPER TX-3 CPU COOLER
    ASRock Z68-EXTREME4 DESKTOP MOTHERBOARD
XFX CORE EDITION 650W 80PLUS PSU
    G.SKILL 8GB KIT DDR3 RIPJAWS X C9 1600MHZ
    SAMSUNG SPINPOINT F3 3.5" 1TB
    OCZ VERTEX 2 120GB SSD 285/275 R/W/MB

    CORSAIR OBSIDIAN 650D GAMING CASE

Main uses: remote work from home so excel and word, outlook but also web browsing, youtube . The odd game.

I realise i need a new GPU (any recommendations ) and was thinking of a ASUS Radeon RX 580 DUAL OC 8GB GDDR5 as it has multiple display port such that the 2 monitors could both be display port run instead of 1 HDMI and 1 DP.

I have a activated Windows 7 Pro version and I assume i can upgrade to windows 10 based on system specs and tutorials I have seen here.

#i assume i could run both screens at 2k if it taxes the new GPU and old CPU too much, and then plan to buy a new CPU/mobo

thanks I am going to soon follow these two

Clean Install Windows 7 | Tutorials

on a new SSD still a 2.5 form though as an old MOBO

    then

Upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 for Free

The only issue i can think of initially is that I do not have ethernet where i am doing the reinstall, i do have a wireless usb Dlink though, and have copied the driver onto a usb as it seems getting internet access is needed fairly quickly to start downloading drivers etc.

You don't "need" to upgrade to Windows 10. You can use your Windows 7 product key and just do a clean install of Windows 10.

You can use ShowKeyPlus to find your Windows 7 product key, if you don't already know it.

Find Product Key in Windows 10 <---- works on Windows 7 as well.

    Clean Install Windows 10

You can also pre-download your motherboard drivers, here: ASRock > Z68 Extreme4

    UEFI or Legacy BIOS
Your motherboard must support UEFI 2.0 or later to be able to install 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 10 with UEFI.
couldn't find if that mobo has UEFI2.0

My opinion is to just do the upgrade to Windows 10 first and see if you are satisfied with the results. You can do the clean install later if you decide you are not satisfied with the upgrade results.

    @Corey

    q1
Windows will have most if not all drivers

    q3
I can't find that info either. But looking at your manual...it looks like a very early UEFI BIOS

All in all, you should probably consider a new CPU, motherboard and RAM.
I don't know your budget, but this is a fairly average, modern day Intel build.

    w/o SSD: System Builder - Core i7-11700K 3.6 GHz 8-Core - PCPartPicker

    withe SSD: System Builder - Core i7-11700K 3.6 GHz 8-Core - PCPartPicker

The fastest SSDs today are about 25x faster than your OCZ, and relatively cheap.

    SAMSUNG 980 PRO M.2 2280 500GB PCI-Express Gen 4.0 x4, NVMe 1.3c Samsung V-NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V8P500B/AM - Newegg.com

If you do decide to upgrade the hardware, SELL the 2500K, the motherboard and the RAM.

Many end users have computers that will fail to upgrade from 10 to 11 by CPU and or TPM criteria.

Microsoft has not finalized the upgrade requirements.

A clean install of Windows 10 allows the end user to modify the BIOS (Legacy > UEFI), fix any partition issues (location of the recovery partition, and MBR > GPT) and turn on secure boot if available.
