Migrating Windows 10 to Second Partition on a Windows 7 Hard Drive....

I have two hard drives on my Desktop PC. One hard drive has Windows 10, the other hard disk has Windows 7. I have been multi-booting by changing which disk to boot in Bios.

I would like to clone my Windows 10 to a second partition on the hard drive that has my Windows 7 hard drive. Can I make the system a dual boot system after that? And id so, how would I go about doing this?

    Thank you very much.

You have two main options: you can directly clone one disk to another, or create an image of a disk. Cloning allows you to boot from the second disk, which is great for migrating from one drive to another. Imaging, on the other hand, allows you to store as many full, one-to-one copies of your source disk as the destination's space will allow, which is useful for backups.

    Thank you for the input.
I understand that.... The plan is to have both Windows 7 and Windows 10 on the same hard drive... How do I go about making the hard drive a multi boot hard drive after I do that?

You will clean install Windows 7 first then you will clean install Windows 10 on another partition.

Far as i know you can't copy Windows OS to a partition you have to fresh install Windows 10 if you want to dual boot with Windows 7.

    Tam:

All of my desktops have 2 separate storage drives.
Windows 7 is installed in one and Windows 10 is installed in the other.
During startup, I select which operating system I want to load and use.

You seem to be happy with the way your desktop is set up, so my advice is to leave it as it is.
Having each operating system in its own storage drive is good to have.
If one of them crashes and burns, you have the other one to fall back on.

It is actually very easy to do what you want to do with MiniTool Partition Wizard Free:
Free Download MiniTool Partition Wizard | Best Partition Manager for Windows PC and Server

Shrink your Windows 7 partition by the amount that you want Windows 10 to occupy. Let's say 128 GB. You will end up with 128 GB unallocated space following the Windows 7 partition. Then copy your Windows 10 partition (and only the OS partition) to the unallocated space that you created. Boot into Windows 7. Make sure the newly copied Windows 10 partition has a drive letter, let's say F:. In a command prompt with Admin privileges, you would run:
    bcdboot F:\Windows

Change F: above to whatever drive letter the Windows 10 partition gets.
