    Windows 10

A clean install is sometimes necessary depending on the outcome of the upgrade. (My upgrade went great but I had only just reinstalled W7 after a mainboard replacement about a month prior to upgrading to W10, where as my partners computer he had Vista on it for years and years and he used the latest tech preview and it failed the upgrade and he had to clean install the tech preview, which eventually updated to the RTM, and he had made extensive backups at my constant nagging).

For me, it hasn't yet been necessary, I only had issues with permissions on the user folders, other than that, my machine boots a few seconds faster and everything pretty much works that I've tried so far. But there are people that run into all kinds of problems and will need to do that clean install after doing the upgrade

(remember that you need to do the upgrade so that windows 10 can activate itself, then you won't need to physically activate it again for subsequent clean installs so you must at least do the upgrade one time so that W10 can activate itself for the hardware in your computer).

If my computer had slowed down, or had issues then I would have done a clean install but as it is, it wasn't necessary. Although I'm sure in 6 months from now I'll want to do a clean install just to clean out the OS as I'm a messy computer operator.

You must first upgrade to receive Windows 10 activation.

You cannot fresh install Windows 10 before you upgrade.

Before upgrading create a full disk image of your SSD if you have the space to store it on your HDD. This can save your ass if you find Windows 10 asplodes for whatever reason.

Then uninstall hardware related utilities, like afterburner, Asus Ai suite, fancontrol software, motherboard utilities, ROG-related utilities. This does not include drivers.

Proceed to upgrading to Windows 10. You non-system partitions will not be modified. If you backed up your Windows partition, choose to keep nothing when upgrading, it goes much smoother.

After the upgrade is complete, you can fresh install (though choosing to keep nothing is exactly that) Windows 10 on that computer as many times as you want.

Restore things you need from the backup, and try to locate Windows 10 compatible replacements for your hardware related utilities.; like afterburner.

Exactly the case for many here, want a fresh install to clean out clutter left over. As long as you have a disc for old OS or image, all software backed up and most games either on disc or steam, origin client for you to reinstall easily never loosing your saves.

To some feel it works better as clean install, sure you are fine way you are for now. Some do clean install every so often for last reasons you mentioned.

    Thank you all for advice.
To test things out Today I have upgraded my laptop from win 7 u 64bit to win 10 pro and everything went perfectly fine and suprisingly, win 10 really does feel awesome eg. all those fast and responsive animations and new windows design with new icons.

I feel I am good to upgrade gaming pc also.

I just had my desktop personal computer upgraded.

I have also some questions about system software.
Here is a link to my pc's motherboard:
Motherboard - The world leader in motherboard design

There are different chipset drivers for Win 8.1 64 and Win 10 64 and my question is following:
During the upgrade, have those new drivers intsalled automatically by windows update or should I download and install them manually ?

Yes i would download them and install them. Some of the ones Windows 10 will update itself may just be. eg. Video card, sound card. Under drivers choose whether your system is 64bit or 32bit for Windows 10, the on board VGA and onboard sound are the ones from this list Windows 10 may have and install or update itself through windows update. As rest you can download and install, this should be one of first things done after this upgrade.

Check device manager after the upgrade to see if those onboard drivers were installed, need help with this ask more on it here.

One thing confuses me at the moment - in contol panel, it shows nvidia graphics driver 350.12 installed but when I open nVidia control panel, it shows me version 353.54.

What to do in such case ?

What Video card model do you have ? In device manager right click the device and select scan for hardware changes. Also try rebooting, but not the newest NVIDIA drivers.
