Upgrade to latest version from "Windows 10 version 1507 build 10240"

Hey, I am just curious to install the latest version of windows but the problem is Can I update it from my version 1507 to the latest Windows version? Some say it is too old and will not support an update, instead better to go for a clean installation. But I just need to update my current version without performing a clean install. Did anyone do this before?

Welcome to the forum. You can give it a try updating but it's likely it won't work there are lots on the forum that haven't been able to update from old versions but a clean install works

Are you running a LTSC version? That's about the only way you could still be at 1507. LTSC 2019 is the current upgrade you could try.

If you are not on a LTSC version then you can try upgrading but it's unlikely to work. Maybe upgrade to an earlier version then if that works, upgrade to the current 2004 version or the previous 1909 version.

You can get any version from here: Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool (GUI) Heidoc.net

Maybe upgrade to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update - September 2017 first, Home or Pro

An old version of Windows can be clean installed and then upgraded skipping versions.

If an old version of windows was in use upgrades could have been blocked by various methods.

If there were no methods used to block upgrades then you will likely need to troubleshoot the automatic or manual upgrade failures.

So compare the expected time for troubleshooting versus clean install.

Thanks a lot friend. I think its better to do a clean install and then i will install the necessary software. Otherwise according to all these comments it might be succeed or not for un upgrade, so if there are any issues it will take time to solve them. So clean install would be better :)

    Cantana,

Even if you understand why it has not been updating since 2015, do make a system image & a full file backup of your own files before you start so you can get back to square one if it all goes wrong.

Macrium Reflect is often recommended in this forum for making system images. Other utilities are available but this one is so commonplace that you can get plenty of help for it.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect - TenForumsTutorials
    Macrium Software Macrium Reflect Free
    Macrium USB - TenForums
Macrium Reflect KnowledgeBase - user guide [version-independent link]

It can also make bootable system images. This facility is called viBoot and it requires Win10 Pro.
    Macrium viBoot - Macrium KB
Macrium viBoot - Create Virtual Machine using Macrium Image - TenForumsTutorials

    Best of luck,
    Denis

Install 1909, not 2004, it`s way too soon, many people having issues.

    1909 works great
