Ya I read it backwards, I`m sorry about that

But after going back and rereading your 1st ply, ya it`s wrong. Half wrong / Half right.

You have to have to have the correct MCT to get a certain Iso file.

No such thing as the "correct" MCT.

It's always for the current release.

That`s what I meant, if you want 1909 you have to have use the 1909 MCT to get that version, if you use the MCT.

I thought this thread was dead and buried, No

Thanks for the clarity. I thought there was some misunderstanding but I didn't want to argue any further.

Anyway I downloaded the file from the source you linked to and couldn't create a DVD since the file is too big; I got a 5gig file. I mounted instead, clicked the exe and this is as far as I'm going since I'm already running 1909 on this machine....

What's the chances it installs from there? (Oh, and no Rufus).

    There is no "1909" MCT.

The MCT (Media Creation Tool...from Microsoft) always applies to the current release.

You can get 1909 either using Rufus, Heidoc, TechBench, maybe some torrent site (I don't do torrents).

    You resurrected it, I guess.

If your system has a block, chances are probably slim.

You don't need to burn the ISO and create bootable media to do an upgrade in place, but it's good to have it to get into the Repair environment if you can't boot into Windows, or need to clean install.

    Hope that helps.

With all due respect are you actually following what's posted? We where all talking about getting an older file... Remember you beat me up about mentioning 2004???

Anyway AddRAM posted a link to get the 1909 ISO in post #5. Using that link I downloaded 1909. In my post you partially quoted I mentioned... 1909

And BTW I'm well aware of the 2004 fiasco and how it won't install if your PC isn't "ready". Been there done that (MCT, ISO, USB, Upgrade Assistant) on my backup machine with all resulting in an epic fail. Even posted about it

But back to this.... yes 1909 is the ISO I'm playing with. Thanks.

I guess you are correct, I have never actually had to use an older MCT to download an older OS, but there was a lot of people here saying you need a particular MCT to download a particular version.

Well that was my point.... you don't NEED Rufus. That's all I was simply saying

Anyway I think there's a lot of misreading and miscommunication going on so.... moving on
