    [1] What versions are they?
    [2] Are they OEM, Retail, or Volume licenses?

    I think this is correct for the upgrades to Win 10 . . .

    Windows 7 Starter --> Windows 10 Home.
    Windows 7 Home Basic --> Windows 10 Home.
    Windows 7 Home Premium --> Windows 10 Home.
    Windows 7 Professional --> Windows 10 Professional.
    Windows 7 Enterprise --> Windows 10 Enterprise.
    Windows 7 Ultimate --> Windows 10 Professional.

    Windows 8 --> Windows 8.1 [ FIRST ] --> Windows 10 Home.
    Windows 8 Professional --> Windows 10 Professional.
    Windows 8 Enterprise --> Windows 10 Enterprise.

    Windows 8.1 --> Windows 10 Home.
    Windows 8.1 [ with Bing ] --> Windows 10 Home.
    Windows 8.1 Professional --> Windows 10 Professional.
    Windows 8.1 Enterprise --> Windows 10 Enterprise.

    I hope this helps!

    The only issue I've had with the Upgrade was trying to go from Win8.1 Ultimate key to Win10 Pro, wouldn't activate because it wanted to install the Enterprise edition and couldn't find a Server to activate, had to use a Pro key.

    Thinking about this, I seem to remember that you couldn't directly update from Win 8 to Win 10. You had to update to Win 8.1 first.

    I have just checked a couple of sites and they say that you do have to update to 8.1 first. Look here . . .

    Which edition of Windows 10 will you get for free?

    That article is from 2015. So maybe something has changed. Who knows.
