Been stuck on Windows 10 Home 1803 for almost a year now

This problem has been driving me absolutely crazy for almost a year now. My PC tells me that support for version 1803 has ran out since like November and wants me to update but my computer refuses to do so and says "Undoing changes made to your computer" in a black screen after the first restart of the PC. I have tried almost everything I can think of and even done a USB stick update from the Desktop and still the same issue. When I try to update from the default windows updater I get no error message, the computer just restarts and says what I put above but when I do it through the USB stick it gives me this error: "0x8007001F - 0x20006 The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during REPLICATE_OC operation" The worst part about this is that I can't even ignore it because Windows tells me 3-4 days later to update again and it's the same thing happening. If someone could please help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

Unfortunately, after trying all of that my computer actually bricked and I got a blue screen of death I'm just resetting the PC now.

Your AVG may be interfering with updates. I know it might seem like a lot of work to reinstall apps and programs but I have had virtually no failures to update old computers after they fail multiple update attempts, by choosing 'Keep personal files only' or 'Keep nothing' option from this page after choosing 'Update now'. Can also use iso or Media Creation tool for older version, like 1909, if preferred and select these options.

This would also wipe all registry traces of AVG which is hard to do with the mfr cleaning tool and replace problematic drivers with basic ones. As always, disconnect all peripherals from usb ports and 2ndary drives and make sure you have all programs available to reinstall (you'll get a list of what was uninstalled on new desktop). I would boot using your current version of Windows 10 installation media, go into the Repair environment, and roll back using a recent System Restore point.

I can't see any of those instruction causing a BSOD, unless you unchecked a service for the clean install you shouldn't have, or you didn't fully turn off AVG.

I personally would suggest using Defender.

Never had an issue with it.

Actually, I would suggest 1909 instead.

There are multiple issues with 2004.

The 1909 ISO can be downloaded using Rufus, or from Heidoc.

I'm not sure what caused it but I reset the PC and updated to 1903 (will update to 1909 next). Everything is working fine now and it's crazy to see how much smoother 1903 is compared to 1803. This was for the better I guess as I didn't lose any very important data.

Going forward, you might consider doing frequent disk image backups to fall back on in case something goes sideways.

At the very least, create a System Restore point before making changes.

Should go without saying, but sometimes it bears repeating.
