Security patches are and will be available up to January 2023 via ESU. Not so hard to find how to gain them. Better than leave system unpatched.Windows 7 is too vulnerable now.
Thank you for the explicit instructions on this upgrade but if I have to do all of that in order to do the upgrade, then I will just stick with the W7 Pro that it installed or do a backup of all of my data and try a clean install instead.
The results displayed a BSOD which is being troubleshooted.
The logs are collected to check other problems.
Among Windows upgrade failures the initial results indicate that there is a good likelihood it can be troubleshooted.
Clean install can always be done with a working drive.
There are routine steps to test the drive and most can be done overnight.
What do you mean but could play games? I played plenty of games on earlier versions of Windows NT...?And responding to the other posts, "my favorite" is a very relative thing. The love hate Windows thing has gone on since the first release.
My all time favorite was Windows 2000. It was Windows NT but could play games. I didn't like Windows XP or Windows 7 all that much. I'm not saying they were not Ok, I just wasn't a fan of the UI. I'm not all that enthused by Windows 10 but at some point you have to move on. It so far meets my needs and is usable for what I do on a windows PC.
My favorite style before Win7 (and Win Vista?) Basic theme came was this:
Windows XP's Luna Royale theme/Energy Blue/Media Center style.
I did too, but it was so much easier to install and get them running on Windows 2000. My memory isn't what it used to be but my recollection was it was more often than not a PITA to get a game running on Windows NT 4. With full graphics etc. Anyway that's all old news now. The push is and has been on for a while by Microsoft to get everybody onto Windows 10. Some will go kicking and screaming but its always been like that when you have an OS you like and don't want to give it up.
It sucks, but the way around the OP's issue may be to do a clean install of Windows 10. Then activate it with the Windows 7 product code, if that still works.
Not sure I'm correct here but for the free upgrade doesn't the version need to be the same? Home to Home and Pro to Pro etc.?
I made another attempt to upgrade to W10 today. I noticed along the process that when I was asked if I wanted to keep the original files and programs that it said that it was upgrading to W10 Pro. I was surprised to see that. However, the installation failed again and I think that it was because I did not have a cabled keyboard or mouse attached. I have an old keyboard but it has a PS2 connector on it. I had to order a USB adapter for it. I did capture this error message at the end. I have no idea what it means though.
7 Pro upgrades to 10 Pro, so it offering 10 Pro is normal. I missed this telling statement in your first post somehow?

When I first started the upgrade, I just assumed that the free upgrade was to W10 Home only. I had no idea that it would offer W10 Pro until today.
I followed the instructions given in the "How to Upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 for Free" Tenforum's W10 help thread like I had done before. This time I did not make an upgrade DVD but just let it install from online. Maybe I need to burn the DVD instead.
