1909 to 2004 update installs Insider Update (KB4566866)

    Hello everybody,

    I updated a Windows 10 1909 18363.900 to 2004 using a Media Creation Tool USB Stick.
I selected the setting "Download updates and drivers ...".
After the update, Windows had the build 19041.330.
I mean KB4566866 is actually "just" an insider update?!

I was never been registered as an insider.

Since I´ve noticed in the past, that with the "Download updates and drivers ..." Option sometimes drivers have not been updated until windows update was staret for the first time after the update, I think it will probably make more sense to avoid this option at all.
Or what are your experiences in this regard?

Does anyone have any idea why this update was installed?

    Thanks and greetings,
    Martin

Don't know but did you create the Bootable USB Thumb drive using the MCT or did you get it elsewhere? I've never gotten the wrong thing using the MCT.

The current just-installed version of the Insider Preview Fast Ring is Version 2004 Build 20150.1000 [first time they have made the first 2 numbers of the Version and the first 2 numbers of the Build the same].

I have Version 2004 Build 19041.329 on my RTM Home machine but haven't been offered it yet on my Pro machines running Version 1909.

    Hi Berton,

I created the thumb drive with the MCT.
I have just tried the same with another stick, which I had created with an iso - same result - the KB4566866 is being installed which leads to build 19041.330.

If I then uninstall this update I get the build 19041.264 - like the installation medium.
A following windows update brings the installation to build 19041.329.

KB4566866 is (correctly) no longer offered.

    Weird...

    - - - Updated - - -

Bothered me and so I made two more tests:

    1. Update via Windows Update = 19041.329
    2. Update via MCT "update this device" = 19041.330

    Why Microsoft? Why?

19041.331 is the latest non-insider public build 2004.

Jep, even KB4567523 is not distributed via WU.

    Two more tests:

1909 Upgrade with the Update Assistant (windows10upgrade9252.exe) and
    2004 19041.329 Inplace Upgrade - both leads to 19041.330!

    Can anyone confirm that?
