    Reinstall Windows 10Pro

I have just acquired a refurbished HP laptop with Windows 10 Pro installed. As the only 'user' is an admin 'HPxxx' account, I would like to reinstall Windows.
Having looked up the procedure, I am told to download a media tool but it doesn't specify whether I download this onto my laptop or directly onto the USB drive.

I would prefer to do a totally fresh install but maybe I should hold on to the HP recovery drive and HP tools (drives D & E).

    Advice would be appreciated please.

Use the Media Creation Tool to create a USB Thumbdrive.

You can also use the MCT tool to create an ISO but then you either have to burn to DVD or create your own USB. Making your own USB can be problematic.

Allow MCT to create for you.

Then you boot from USB. The boot menu on HP is usually F9. So power on and as soon as you see logo F9.

    Our clean boot walk through.

You may have to hit the Escape key when rebooting to get to the F9 menu choice. Not sure about that, but it is so on some HP laptops.

Caledon Ken is right about how easy it is to create an appropriate bootable usb drive. See:
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10
    Option 1

Note you do have to download and run the tool that then creates the drive.

The HP recovery partition supports a factory reset- i.e. to 'as bought'. What O/S did the laptop come with? Might have been pre Win 10 or an early build of Win 10, and probably includes trialware.

It would be hard to think of a use for it.

If you need to download HP utilities or special drivers, have a look at HP's drivers download page for your laptop.
Then decide if you want to keep it.

Reset Windows 10 as NavyLCDR said and keep nothing is almost a Clean Install and a lot easier.Just follow the directions in the link he provided.
No MCT, no download by you, everything is handled by Windows. Pretty slick actually. I've used it many times.
