    Clean install win 10 Pro

    Hello,

I'm not a power user or well practiced on or in computing.
    I have a Lenovo E570 laptop with Win 10Pro V1903

It has two SSD's. I'd like to clean install a new copy of Win 10 Pro.

I've got both drives backed up on an external drive.

When it comes time to restore (or reinstall) all the data by question is: Is the external drive going to put the
Same data back to the same drives ? or am I going to have to tell it some how where to put what ?

    Oscar. .

Here is our clean install tutorial. It is recommended that only the drive you want to be the boot drive be connected when following. A little harder with a laptop where no access.

    Clean Install Windows 10

The tutorial will show you how to get a fresh copy of Windows although it will be V2004. Not sure I would be installing V2004 today. Do you have other bootable media say from V1909.

You can also reset the version of windows on your laptop. This might be easier. You can decide to keep your personal data or keep nothing.

    Reset Windows 10

If you go the true Clean install from media or a reset with keep nothing you will have to copy your data files back on to laptop.

Bacically documents to documents, pictures to pictures etc.

If you have two SSD's how are you using them today? Is one for Windows / programs and the other for data? If so you may have to tell Windows again to keep this structure. We have tutorials on this subject.

Could I ask why you want to clean install?

Also watch licensed software when doing this. You need to know your product keys and with some software you have to deactivate to keep the number of copies straight.

Have a read and come back with what you want to do as there could be other details to make this successful, like if you clean from media do you want to use MS account or local account. See what you are using today.

I think when Samuria asked the question is was more what software did you use or was it just copy and paste?

I have the product keys needed.

One drive for programs and some data,

    2nd drive for data only.

Once I get the OS reinstalled, (rather if I do a system restore of Image from an thumb drive:

When it comes time to restore (or reinstall) all the data, my question is:

Is the external drive going to put the same data back to the same drives ?

or am I going to have to tell it some how where to put what ?

I'm trying to get an idea what to expect.

When you restore, you say to where.

    But.....................

Do you have literally 2 totally distinct SSDs?

Based on your eyesight or based on what something or somebody told you?

It's a laptop, so you could have who knows what when you actually look inside.

Can you post a screen shot of Windows Disk Management?

When you backed up your data, not Windows, did you do that via a drag and drop? Via a program? What program?

An educated guess is that you made image backups of the SSD using some program, which you still have not told us the name of? If that is the case, you will have to tell the program where to restore the partition to (IE: unallocated space on an SSD). The entire partition will be restored to the SSD. With some programs, such as Macrium Reflect, you can mount the backup image and retrieve specific files and folders from the backup image.

A system restore is neither a clean install or a reset.

Yes we have lots of questions but we want to steer you in right direction.

Can I ask again, what problem are you trying to recover from by this "Clean" install.
