    Which file should I use to start this installation?


    So far I've spent 3 days with various MS technicians (4 technicians and 4 Case Nos).

    Each in his own way has left me stranded ... this after the procedure to contact MS and then wait on phone for
    over an hour just to reach the technician. Then the hours spend sitting here while who knows what was happening.

    Problem is: the System Image I've always updates won't work any longer, nor a conventional backup.

    Now I have downloaded a Windows.iso and the first thing I tried was to click on Setup.exe (First)
    The install went for ages with computer turning off and on but when finished it stated "Unsuccessful".

    Now I've reverted to the OS I had prior to discovering the inability to update System's Image.

    Next there is another large file named "sources" ... but what do I do with it.
    I've copied all the files within 'sources' and they are attached in order 1-7 (No.1 is last, didn't upload at first)

    What I need to learn (with your expert assistance) is how do I go about beginning another installation?

    Hi.

    Sorry I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to do.

    Are you attempting to upgrade your current version of Windows 10, say from 1903 to 1909 or are you trying to start an installation from scratch, a clean install.

    Or are you trying to repair an existing install.

    If you are wanting a clean install then you need to create a Windows 10 USB flash drive and boot the computer from it.

    Sorry for any confusion.
    Apparently this .iso will upgrade my Win 10 and that's fine (unless there's a problem with 1909.

    What I want to achieve is the ability to continue making a System's Image

    Since the tech support was unable to get that up and running for me on the existing OS (1903?) I decided the best way
    to go was a new installation of Win 10.

    NavyLCDR - yes I have to .iso file on a memory stick but again what would I do to commence a proper installation
    (remember I tried the Setup.exe without luck already so need another way to start the install).


    ps electric storm happening here ... power and house wi fi just went out so may be interruptions this end.

    First you would back up any of your data to another drive if you are doing a clean install.

    To perform a clean install we offer this.

    Clean Install Windows 10

    One difference between a clean install and an inplace upgrade is you boot the ISO to do a clean install and for and in place upgrade you double click Setup.

    This is the forum's inplace upgrade tutorial.

    Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

    If you already have iso on USB stick you can copy to desktop, right click ISO file, click mount and run setup.


    As to Imaging your system please don't use the built in Windows tool. There are lots of options out there. One that is widely used by forum members is Macrium. The free version will do everything you need.

    Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect


    I would not be upgrading to V2004 until Windows Update offers it to you. There are known issues and MS has installed "Blocks" to prevent the update.

    It seems that you presently have build 1909 and are trying to manually upgrade to build 2004 using an iso file for build 2004.

    Is that correct?

    Note that some bugs have been reported in 2004.

    Assuming that is correct, then confirm that you have a functional installation of build 1909, and that you have been offered build 2004 via Windows Update if you manually scan for updates (Windows Update in Settings).

    Some people receive a message that their PC isn't quite ready yet- that indicates there is an incompatibility- and build 2004 won't run without problems.

    Confirm that you don't see this message.

    If you have a disk image and wish to take the risk...

    Assuming that's so and that you have a full disk image of your current 1909 installation, and have >30Gb free on C: then

    Log in, rt click on the iso file, click Mount (if available else post back) then open the new drive letter in file explorer and double click setup.exe to start. Choose not to accept updates to simplify this.


    But you say:

    Is that correct? You have not quoted any error messages.

    Please note that addressing that isn't about starting the upgrade another way. Upgrade failures are often next to impossible to diagnose requiring days of effort analysing log files and error messages.

    There are many computer's that work fine that fail to upgrade.
    And there are computers that are having various problems that fail to upgrade.

    What specific problems are you having with the computer?

    For the failed upgrade what was the error message and code?

    Run setupdiag > post all results using a share link (one drive, drop box, google drive)
