upgrading to Windows 10 soon! advice? thoughts?

So my Stimulus check finally came in so I decided to upgrade my PC...
new Motherboard, RAM, CPU, and a NVMe stick..!
Here is my shopping/wish list... from Amazon .com
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/w...1GDT6VL00S3H7/

And that means upgrading to a fresh install of Windows 10 from Windows 7 (Win7 FOREVER!! lol :P )
reinstalling everything and copying all my files over to the NVMe stick.....

is my post even in the right sub-forum?

Don't buy Windows 10. Make your install media here...

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

... use your Windows 7 product key for Windows 10. (still works, just did it 3 weeks ago).

Unhook the internet during the Windows 10 install. When finished with the Win 10 install... nstall all motherboard drivers and vid card driver... THEN rehook the internet.

I personally recommend Macrium Reflect 7 backup software (free), and WinAero Tweaker (free).

Lastly, (as I too am a diehard Win 7 fan), think of Windows 10 as a weird kind of video game, with tons of side quests for at least the first month, or you will go insane. :)

Almost forgot... get Revo Uninstaller (free) as well, you're gonna need it.

When you do have problems, and you will, post them here as these folks know Windows 10 extremely well.
Remember to thank them and give them rep points too. :)

    Good luck and have fun.

/edit ...and yes a clean install of Windows 10 is best.

I already bought a Windows 10 Pro OEM key from cdkeysales .com mainly becuase I could not afford a retail key from
Amazon or M$ directly... what with the cost of the parts I ordered off of Amazon .com

Buy best Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM CD KEY GLOBAL from cdkeysales.com

seems semi-legit.. not sure, but the key looks real... won't know till I activate it...

I already downloaded that Win10 install media creation tool for the May update...
all ready used it on a 32 GB USB drive...

true I would rather stick with Win7 but the hardware is too new for it...

but at the same time... the developers have to eat too... and the cost of developing a OS is staggering...
so we really should pay full price..

That's your choice. It's completely legal to use your Windows 7 key. I also upgraded and the motherboard manufacturer didn't supply Win 7 drivers... so, Windows 10.
You got the key fairly cheaply, so might as well use it.

Good luck, and remember.. disconnect the internet before you install, until after you have the drivers installed.

Only weird thing I noticed was that on my ASUS x570 motherboard there was one driver missing. It was called the PCI Encryption/Decryption Controller.
Apparently this is not included in the ASUS motherboard chipset driver. But can be had in the AMD x570 chipset driver. This seems to be a common problem on ASUS motherboards.

I just contacted ASUS and they sent me a link for the AMD chipset driver (non-vga) ( I have an Nvidia vid card), and that fixed the issue. Seems the motherboard didn't NEED that driver, but it could also be that ONLY my system didn't need it.

Other than that install and all else went fine.

    Good luck. :)

/edit Just so you know... you CAN get Windows 10 looking like this....

lol I would but I am reusing the these parts so I cannot keep it as a backup I guess.. lol:
    • PC FULL tower ATX case
    • Nvidia/EVGA GTX 1070 Ti 8GB
    • Thermaltake 1250 Watt power supply
    • other HDDs for stuff.. server(file storage), Game HDD, etc
    • ASUS Blu-ray drive

I do have Windows 7 on an old laptop, 2008 Toshiba Satellite... for backup...

but the motherboard is in limbo in California some where...
they claim they have sent it via UPS and its shipped but the UPS tracker says only the label has been created..
    I'm worried...
