    Still on Windows 10 1903

I upgraded the memory in my daughter's Lenovo Yoga 510 and noticed that her laptop was still runnning 1903. I do not open her laptop much, but the other PCs and laptops have been on 1909 since last year. She has got Windows 10 home while the other PCs are on Windows 10 Pro.
I have a couple of questions.

Does Windows 10 home have a slower upgrade cycle?

Would it make sense to manually upgrade? 2004 seems to have some issues looking through the forum - or can I go to 1909?

If I do an upgrade with the media creation tool does this equate to me blanking the disc and erasing all files and settings?

1903 is a good build.. I'm staying with it for a couple of particular reasons at present.

It's the last build before MS made changes (and messed up) Windows search via file explorer- mostly fixed I understand.

You can upgrade manually (iso file or installation disk) - by logging in first, then starting the upgrade, but there's nothing that's likely to bring you significant benefit.

See relevant articles in the News section as well as general reviews (e.g. via Google).

her laptop was still runnning 1903.
Some PCs are not offered upgrades for compatibility reasons.

You should also check that Windows Update is actually enabled and running correctly.

Yes, just update to 1909 and choose to keep all your apps and files. You DO NOT have to format the OS drive.

But if you want to install 1909, you`ll have to get it from here. The new MCT will only download the new 2004 update.

    TechBench by WZT (v4.1.1)

Once you have the 1909 ISO file downloaded to her PC, open it with windows explorer, then click on setup, the update to 1909 will begin.

Make sure you choose to save all apps and files.

Once you`re done you`ll have a new recovery partition, you can delete it if you want, and you`ll have a windows.old folder. That will disappear in 10 days

No. My first PC to be offered the May 2020 Feature Update (2004) on the release day, 27 May, was running Home.

Would it make sense to manually upgrade? 2004 seems to have some issues looking through the forum - or can I go to 1909?

If 2004 is not being offered, then it may be because of a blocking issue for this particular PC. If so, then it may not be safe to manually upgrade. Unless 1909 is offered in Windows Update, the only way to update to 1909 would be with a 1909 ISO.

No, you will be able to keep all installed apps and user files, but see my previous comment. With the MCT you can either 'Update this PC now' or create an ISO to upgrade another PC (or this one) later. Update now should check compatibility, but upgrading by using an ISO will bypass all blocking issue checks.

Should you decide to go ahead and risk a manual upgrade, it is essential that you give yourself a way back. Making a system image before you start is highly recommended. Macrium Reflect (Free or paid) would be what I'd use.

    Thanks for the replies.
It looks like I will wait and leave 1903 as it is.

That is the safest option. 1903 will remain in support and continue to receive security patches and fixes until December 8, 2020.

Good decision. If 1903 has all you need, don't try something "new".
