    Failing clean Windows 10 Install

Hello. I am at my wit's end with trying to figure out why I can't get a clean install of Windows 10. Figured I'd try this before taking to the shop to spend money I don't have :)

I have a HP 14-AL062NR laptop. I've had it for a few years and used it heavily. About a month ago it started getting BSODs randomly while running. Multiple different errors. I figured maybe my HD was failing so I made multiple attempts to install Ubuntu and Mint so I could grab important files. I couldn't get either to install for good, just the "Live" versions. I managed to grab the necessary files though, and neither OS ran smoothly. I attempted to reinstall Windows 10 with a Rufus USB, but it would always BSOD error (multiple ones) around 69%.

I installed a brand new WD Blue 2TB hard drive. Attempt to install Windows 10 x64 from a USB made with Rufus from a friend. Did the Diskpart/Clean in the commando prompt procedure I found on this forum. The install goes well until about 75%, when I get more BSODs. The first one was the IRQL error, and on the next install it's Security Kernel error.

Before I take it to a shop, do ya'll think it's a hardware error at this point? Maybe RAM, maybe the motherboard. Since I get all these errors and I couldn't get Mint or Ubuntu to install, and when ran as Live versions they were buggy and error-prone. I can replace the RAM or motherboard as they're both available online. I'm sorry to take up forum space, I'm just desperate here. Thank you!

Try it with the more simpler Windows Media Creation tool (if someoen esle did it for you, you don't know what Rufus settings were chosen). And use a different USB stick, just in case.

But, given the range and variety of errors you appear to be getting, I think some technical intervention may be inevitable.

I tried two different SanDisc USBS. I will see if he can use that tool or I can borrow his laptop and try the Windows Media Creator. Thank you!

Hi, you can try booting it from a live boot disk with various tools e.g. create one from an iso (you need to know how- e.g. in the same manner as two methods given in the tutorial here for creating a bootable disk to install Win 10 in the Tutorials section).

    Bob.Omb's Modified Win10PEx64 - Best Rescue Disk 2018
    Toolkit Item: Kyhi’s Rescue Disk – Win10.Guru

    - more options exist.

Examine the tools available- you should at least be able to run a RAM and disk test (albeit you have a new disk).

There are HP diagnostics, but these seem to require a functioning Win 10 installation.

    https://h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/getpdf...A5-3192ENW.pdf

These are portable (you can run a program from a flash drive having booting from the live boot disk)
Free Stress Test Tool HeavyLoad | JAM Software
Prime95 - Stress Test Your CPU
    Chocolatey Software | Prime95 (Portable) 29.4.5

More - you'd need to check what's portable:
Huge List of Computer Stress Test Software [Used by Engineers in the Rugged Computing Industry]

It's not so old- around 2016?
    Drivers:

    - BIOS from 2020

Before you spend a lot of money, be aware you can get a decent 2nd hand laptop- e.g. ex-business - with Win 10 Pro for under £200.

    Hi,
check your Bios settings for a menu Diagnostics or sth similar to test the hardware.
    Good luck!

The RAM you can test for yourself without installing anything. There should be memory diagnostics built into its BIOS.

Thank you. I recall doing that and it didn't seem to elicit any errors. However I just loaded up MemTest from USB and it found so many errors (10,000+) that it aborted the operation. So hopefully it's just my RAM. I will look into the above posted tools to see if any can test my CPU/Motherboard. But it looks like for now it's my RAM. I can grab a 16gb set (2x 8GB) for like $70 on Crucial.

Update the specs in the "My Computer" section:

System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums
In the left corner below in your post you find 'My System Specs'.
After clicking it you can find a link a little below that says 'Update your System Spec', click on this link to get to the page where you can fill in your system specs.
System Info - See Your System Specs - Windows 7 Help Forums

How many RAM modules are installed?
Find out whether they are easily accessible or whether they are behind the keypad.

If there are more than one module and if easily accessible you can remove all RAM modules and then test one at a time in the same DIMM to differentiate good from malfunctioning RAM.
