    Buy a new SSD

Samsung Solid State Drives - Memory Storage | Samsung US

Throw that hard drive as far away as you possibly can

I have never seen anything like it. If I booted from the installation medium, I have always been able to delete all partitions on the target drive.

Sorry that I can offer no useful advice.
That can happen when the hard drive, or at least the controller board has failed. All of the diagnostics and symptoms so far indicate it has failed. Time to move on.

Ya, it`s a 7 year old laptop, no surprise the drive is dead.

And it "suddenly" stopped working 5 months ago.

You can see if the laptop still functions if you run a live Link distro, using the cd drive or a usb stick.
