There are log collectors used in another Ten Forums room.

Hi, I think i should inform/clarify something. I recently did a re-install of windows due to this & my fingerprint sensor not working. I did then have to reinstall the finger reader driver, Dell Support Assistant & Dell Update and may have altered the system but i doubt so as i was having this issue before i re-installed windows. I managed to fix the other issues and then focused on this.

DM Log Collector failed to run - a cmd pop-up came on the screen for a second & disappeared with nothing happening then. (Even after restart)
V2 Log Collector ran & game an output but in the 1st few seconds attached error appears. (Even with multiple runs & restart)

Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro

Do consider contacting your regional activation centre. If the source of your key was at all dubious you could be wasting your time.
Yes i read it, im unsure what are OEM keys tbh. I did try disconnecting my Ethernet (airplane mode & disconnect wire) and using generic key but same error occurs. I actually did contact Windows Help center and communicated to them my problem - the agent checked my key & told me it was an correct Enterprise ``Bulk`` key or something along those lines & he would not be able to help as they're the consumer point of contact & if i was in an enterprise to go thru my it support.

He advised me to contact my seller for a consumer key to which i only found out that this key can be installed on clean installed which is when i shifted my attention to using the generic key instead but with the same outcome.

    i purchased the key here:
    HTML Code:
    https://www.u2key.com/windows-10-professional-retail-key.html
& here is the attached ShowKeyPlus output on checking this key (note key is deleted here):

Edit: To clarify the windows install was similar to this: Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade
& I'm willing to do any trouble shooting to solve this issue & hopefully upgrade to pro without having to lose all my files including the possibly or re-doing the above link

Given what you say, I suggest you follow the tutorial to upgrade to Pro and purchase a correct and applicable key.

From a different point of view, what do you wish to gain by upgrading?

Ahaha i was hopping to save some money by not going to Microsoft & since do still believe the key is legit but maybe the only way yo use it is thru a clean install. But i was only hopping to save me the whole process of reinstall all my software & files. Guess i can't save on both :/ if the'res no option i might consider. As for why, its not a serious reason but more of a convince reason for Hyper-V for the rare VMs (so i dont have to go into all my settings/bios etc) & like the simple bitlocker (not a must either). Kinda just want my laptop to have everything i need so it's a simple convenience to use when i need to really do work (kinda)

There is freeware support for VMs - you can use Virtualbox.
    Oracle VM VirtualBox

If you were also seeking the additional features to control Windows Updates, there are freeware tools to block WU and let you scan manually.

This version of Windows works only on new installed Windows. If you purchase this version, you will need to re-install your Windows.
    - so considering using it to upgrade is a waste of time.

    Sorry.
Its something i dislike about the windows side of things. On the activation page it accepts my key (i have tried some i found online & it would tell me if the key is rejected) but it just gives a clueless error but understandable given my code only works on clean installs (yes, im still hopefull lol) but just need to find a easier solution i guess? or give up when im worn out

I actually aware of that but was hopping the final convince end game would be the upgrade

Hmm i actually did read that & mentioned it....

But quick questions - is there like an easy way to bypass this? I mean they confirmed it was a key & it actually got accepted. So could like like partition a drive, install windows fresh there, use this new (pro) key, link it to my Microsoft account then deactivate it for the pc (no idea how to do this) and then update this account to use the license instead? or a possible loop-hole to same me $ and put me at ease lol - else ill give up & close this. Thanks again guys tho!!

Doesn't sound like Pro is vital to you. You're looking for help to bypass the system- such things are prohibited.

Just to make you wince- I have Win 10 Pro on a PC which I originally bought with no O/S. I got Win 8.1 Pro when MS was offering it for about $40. Thus I have Win 10 Pro.

Awh, but wait i was looking for a legal loophole, dont wanna go dark side, might corrupt stuff and don't want to take chances. Im sure these are allowed lol. Anyways I don't think i need it its just easier. I'll give u an example. So i wanted to clone my door card (nfc kind of cards) & kali linux could do it but it need a usb nfc reader etc & hence it did't work in VMware (tried juz failed & online said it wouldnt work this way), so booted into usb and did it. but had to turn on hyper-v or whatever setting at that time.

Then sooner or later i needed to use VMware for work stuff and then i had to go back into settings/bios change back those settings again. Basically summary it it's juz troublesome especially at those times when i need to get things done so that when it occurred to me an upgrade would solve stuff lol. + Bitlocker encryption might be safer (yes lost a laptop a few years back). Anyways doubt this is going anywhere anymore, thanks again, Ps - Ill close this in abit

basically this: changepk.exe /productkey <enter your new product key here>

It somehow just started the upgrade & finished without the error! Don't know why the other ways/normal ways didt work??

Acceptance of an invalid (illegal?) key during installation simply means that the sequence and combination of the alpha/numeric characters matches Microsoft algorithm. It's only later (commonly with a major update) that Microsoft (re)checks the key and finds out it's been used on multiple devices.

A rejected key usually means it's just fake with a random collection of characters, or for another MS product. "The clueless error" part you mention ... Microsoft/Windows is pretty good at throwing up "error message of last resort" ... doesn't know what's wrong, can't identify a relevant error message, Hmmm, let's see ... OK, this error message will do.

Don't mean the harbinger of doom and gloom, but just should alert you to the possibility of the key being de-activated sometime down the track (see my above post),

Hoping it never happens, but if it does, you could keep this discussion in mind to go (partway) to explaining if it gets de-activated at some stage in the future.

    Good luck, and well done.
