I have reserved my copy of Win 10 (upgrade from Win7 Pro 32bit retail) , but i plan to fit a SSD and instill the 64bit version of Win 10.
does windows 10 need to be upgrade installed first so Win 10 recognizes my hardware or can i download the ISO and do a clean install
or will i need to install Win 7 64bit then do the updates and then apply for the upgrade?
I tried a clean install without installing Windows 7 first, but that did not work.
I ended up reinstalling Windows 7, upgrade to Windows 10 so Microsoft will grant me a valid Windows 10 product key, then do a clean install using the ISO.
You need to do an upgrade first so that MS knows your hardware configuration for activation. Once that's done, and make sure you see Windows 10 is activated after the upgrade, go ahead and replace the HDD and install Windows 10 clean. Skip activating Windows during the setup (since you don't have the product key) and then once everything is installed activate it.
